Does anyone know if there are other shoe mount flash units that will support the TTL metering on the G1 / G2? I would like to find something more powerful than the Contax flash. Metz or Sunpack maybe?

The SCA382 adpater works with the current range of SCA Metz flashes with most, if not all, TTL Contax Cameras. In my case a 139q a 167mt and the G1 and G2.

So how do you like this set-up? Has it worked well for you? I have been using Nikons mostly and flash has always been very good with little input. The G1's are new to me and I am loving the quality of these lenses and small size and light weight. ;)

Hi there, I think all Yashica brand units will also work in TTL on Contax, there may be an option you like with that, I bought an old Contax TLA 30 flash for my rig and I'm happy with that but it is not high power.
There are other threads about using flash on G1 and G2 bodies and how to get flash exposure compensation, worth a read if you have not already.

I just picked up the Contax TLA30 off ebay from Henrys.com in Toronto. It's TTL, has a tilt-head, sits much higher than the TLA 140 & 200, and it's a cinch to use. I'll post some results when they come back from the lab.

Found this thread searching the archives and had a related question to this older thread. I have a Contax 140 flash which sometimes produces nice results, sometimes not so much. I know very little about flash photography and TTL in particular. Another factor is I'm using it with Kodachrome 64 which has its nuances.

My girlfriend has a recent Canon Speedlite TTL flash that she got for her DSLR. This unit has a lot of buttons and options. Wondering if this flash will work with the TTL on the G1 (it seems TTL is not universally compatible?). And if it is okay to use it with the G1 without a special adapter if anyone has any tips for settings, etc.

thanks!

You can use the Contax TLA units, TLA140, TLA200, TLA280, TLA360, and over kill TLA420 that all offer TTL on the G1 and G2
Cameras.

So basically those are my options, nothing else works without special adapters?

In addition to this there are various Metz units which can be adapted. I used to use a Metz 32CT3 (22 years old) with an SCA 382 and that works well, even rear curtain sync.

I currently use the Contax TLA280 which works well on both the Contax G1 and G2 and also use a Contax TTL cord for off camera. I will probably get alot of flack for this, but here goes. I use only Nikon Flash units on my Nikon Cameras, only Contax Flashes on my Contax Cameras and Nikon Flash on my Voigtlanders. The Rollei 35s, I use a, you guessed it, a Rollei Flash. I have never have had a problem with camera electronics by doing this. The results are great.
