Maybe not Tube Amps but Music itself...
Cat...the only pet we have right now...
Vinyl...yes...replaced the needle a year ago...love playing the old records...
Woodworking...the smells of Oak or Cherry when cutting...the feel of wood when finely sanded...
Old Cars...you know the ones you can actually work on...and the smell of the exhaust...
Fixing just about anything...or just being able to take it apart...open it up, clean it, put it back together...
Mowing my lawn...trimming the roses...killing gophers...

Must've missed this thread! I love cats ( especially my 19 year old ornery little tortoise-shell ), love vinyl and wish that I could afford a tube amp ( I'd really like a Blue Circle tube integrated to replace my well-loved CS amp ).

My vinyl collection only goes up to about 1200 - 1500 ( estimate ) records, but I'm proud to say that I've never sold a record - only cd's!

I remember when I used to always change the oil on my car and, despite the fact that I'm far from a gearhead. I actually used to be able to do things like change out my brake pads and other smaller repairs/maintenance. Now I can't even reach the oil filter on my car, let alone change it. I really miss the simplicity of those times.

He's asking a mere $3 million for that well-kept archive. You can find much less dignifying stuff for sale on ebay for that much.

Ideally that should be turned into a museum. But I'm surprised some techno/hip-hop artists haven't jump on the chance to some of the cool songs that no one in this generation ever heard.

I used to live in Pittsburgh ( for most of my life ) where the guy with the record collection is from. He's been trying to sell the collection for years now, and the last I had heard was that he did indeed sell it, but based upon the link with the documentary, I guess it fell through. He used to have it all in a store, where some records were for sale, and some weren't, and a lot of the stuff was filed behind the counter, which you had to ask for to see. It was kind of strange, in many ways. His prices were very much on the high side. The store was always fun to go to, though, and you could always find something that you could afford.

I always wondered why he didn't just have Christie's or another big auction house put it up years ago, but he really must want to keep it together.

And I have two copies of the Impressions album you have there - I had to buy a second because it was in much nicer shape than the first. Although, once you get the greatest hits, you feel the need to get the individual albums - some of the best soul music ever created.

jpa66, you know you've got the disease when you own more than one copy of anything. I'm not sure what's worse: forgetting that you already own something and buying another copy or making the excuse that the first one is "too perfect to play"/"too messed up to play"... "so, of course, I need another one."

Ha! Yeah - I actually have multiple copies of way too many records. I've got three copies of the Beach Boys "Today!" album, simply because the first one I got was in stereo, but I had to have the mono, and then I got another copy of the stereo because it was in better shape!

The same thing happened with a Miracles record - years ago I got a copy of "Going To A Go-Go" without the cover because I really wanted it, then found a nice stereo, but liked the cover so much that I wanted to hang it on the wall, so I got another one. The problem was that the record itself was so nice, that I couldn't bear to separate the two, so I still don't have a copy framed on the wall!

There's nothing quite like the sound of vinyl, though - ya just gotta love it!

I agree. However, I tend to pick and choose what I want in vinyl. For me, jazz, funk, electronic, blues, and hip-hop I like on vinyl. Rock - I'm impartial.

tell me about it! i'm the family gearhead, so after wrenching of one of just about everything for family and friends, i'm happy with simple machines. when my wife told me i had to have a 'modern' vehicle with 4 doors, air conditioning, and a radio...... i bought a jeep!

outgoing project once we get around to selling it is (her) '71 Nova SS, next up is a real monster - a '59 Chevy 2-ton truck. if a 'normal' full sized pickup is a Leica, think Pentax 6x7....

guilty on tube amps - but oniy in a vehicle! though it's got no home at the moment, there's a Milbert BAM-320 awaiting....something. some plaining NADs in the living room right now, and some (gasp) Bose speakers. we brought home a bulldog puppy a year or so ago, and I didn't think there would much puppy/tube/Magnepan compatibility.

olde english bulldogge > cat in my world, but not everyone's I suppose.

vinyl... neat, but these days, I'll pass. tubes work OK in a car, records, not so much.

linux... um..... a little at work (mostly a Windows shop for lotsa reasons), but home is an OSX/OpenBSD kinda place.

throw in old cars/trucks/motorcycles, and serious wanting for a midcentury modern home, and you've pretty much got my number.

Classic camera users are a unique breed. We have a lot in common. It's been discussed elsewhere, but I thought I'd avoid taking other threads off topic.

Cats: singular, orange, female. Quirky, even for a cat.
