Reminds me of home back in SW Kansas. With a good wet spring there would be millions of them in the fall and winter. A really windy day would pile them up to the top of a two story barn or 10 foot deep across a lower lying country road with fences on both sides. I've seen the main stalks nearly two inches in diameter before as well as driven through car radiators and even an oil pan once.
Thanks for the photos!

Nice set, I liked the second and sixth images best. Nice warm color, almost like Provia.
National Geograhic had an article recently about this noxious weed giving some historical context and anecdotes:

Thanks Noll! Interesting link! I would never have known! I thought they were native! These were taken right at sunset and the light was changing by the minute. All shot on tripod and long exposure.
Blooze, Thanks! Glad you liked the set! Interesting backstory! They're all over the desert, but never as bad as you describe. Wow!!!

Great set. It takes me back to my youth in eastern Washington. I can remember seeing large areas of tumbleweeds set on fire. They burn like dried out Christmas trees. Almost explosive.

From the Department of the Surreal, here in the UK there used to be a small clump of tumbleweed next to one of the car parks at the Ford Motor Company works at Dagenham, Essex. It's thought that the seed came over on earth on the earth moving machinery used when the factory was built in 1929-30. Presumably the conditions aren't to the plants liking as much as in the USA. Sadly, I believe that the clump has long gone.

Thanks Adrian and Biomed!
I think I'm going to have to try burning one!
That doesn't bring bad luck, does it?
