before getting the fujis i would have said that i was a 35mm guy. (on ff)
but since the fujis and their lack of a 35 equivalent i have been using the 35 (50) fov and really liking it.

has this situation happened for others? do you think you have gained a new appreciation for the 50? (fov)

Because my M3 has no 35 mm framelines, I went with a 50 mm 'Cron, yes a bit of a challenge at first but I have grown to really like it.

Before my daughter was born I was mostly using a 35. Since then it's mostly a 50. A while back I got an old Canon 100mm f3.5 ltm and that length has been useful too. Joe

Definitely a 35 guy still. At the moment my only two lenses are the fuji 35 (50mm equiv) and a canon 40mm pancake which I actually really like. Currently using the canon more often just because I prefer the focal length.

I go back and forth between being a 35mm FOV and 50mm FOV guy. Right now I'm a 50mm FOV guy.

I bounce between the TWO as well...l35 & 50
But as of Late seem to be smitten with the 50...
Just seems so Perfect in Distance, relation to subject & intimacy ;)

Uch, oh, I just added a 35mm being 50mm shooter. I still can't get use to it, bit too wide, good that I have dedicated bodies for both and I am use to carry second body all the time anyway :D
But yes, 50mm is the real thing for me.

Regards,

Boris

There are times when I want longer, and times when I want wider. If I look at all the photos I have made in the past ugh-too-many-years of shooting, the composite average demonstrates that what works best for me on 35mm format is a 40-45 mm focal length. So, a 28mm lens is stuck on my GXR most of the time, a 40mm lens lives on my CL most of the time, the Hassy has the 80 Planar on it most of the time, etc etc.

The exception is my M9, which almost always has the Nokton 50/1.5 ASPH (LTM) fitted. I just love the way that lens renders, and its slightly tighter normal gives me a different look compared to the other cameras with the 40s fitted so much of the time.

when i first started getting into photography, I was shooting with a Rebel XT + 24mm 2.8 (35mm equiv) and that combo was perfect for me, small, light and fast lens.
I tried shooting with an 35mm 2 lens on my 5Dc/II but I wasn't liking it, 50mm felt better especially portraits which is what I mainly take with my DSLR.
I bought a X100/s and felt at home with it's 23mm lens and APS-C sensor, on my M6 I only have my ZM 50mm and overall happy.
slowly realizing that for my street shots, I prefer 50mm more but for travelling, 35mm is more versatile.

I have more 50mm lenses than 35mm lenses. I use 50mm lenses more often that I use 35mm lenses.

i'm a a similar situation...

Bought the X-E1 with the 35 because I wanted a nice fast lens. It's OK, but sometimes it feels like it's not wide enough (compared to the 40mm on the Canonet QL17).

Going to get the XF18 next...Should give a good mix of a fast and wide lens, and a ver fast and normal lens.

I shoot everything from 20 up to 300.. But I use the normalish range the most from 40-60. If it is going to be one lens this range will be what I have on my camera, with the preferred focal length being the 40fov if I have one for the camera.

Joe, what surprises me is that I have always liked the 50mm and enjoyed the Fuji 35mm.
However, recently acquired CV 40mm and I do not mind the 60mm FOV. I especially enjoy the whole manual focus experience and anticipating the subject distance.
Furthermore, with the helicoid adapter, there is no issue with close subject.

I go back and forth, 35 to 50 (equiv) , also. Love them both.
The 35 is more versatile, the 50 is slightly more intimate with the subject.
I would like to see a Fuji prototype for an X100 with a 35-50 equiv zoom
and see how small they can make it. f2.0 -f2.8, manual zoom (no motors).
That XE-1 zoom lens (18-55??) is too too big.

EDIT: or . . . how about just a 35/50 (no zoom, just a snapover).

good topic, i started with the 50mm normal lens
as i felt the 35mm was just too wide, then I learnt
how to get closer, and 35mm became my new
focal length. Now I am sick of the 35mm and have
sneaked off with the 50mm again.

Prefer the 50 but having the X100s too it makes a change, and a challenge, to use 35. 50 was the lens I had on my Olympus OM -1n in my film days so that's my choice.
