Turning RB67 screen into Rolleiflex screen, experiences?

I am also considering the screen from Rick Oleson - I am wondering how does it compare to Mamiya RB/RZ67 screen.

I'm wondering that too. I have Rick Oleson screen in one of my rolleicords as the stock screen was impossible to use in dark places. Sure the new screen is brighter but the quality is not so good. Ofc you pay for what you get and i didn't expect much for about 30usd . The screen is usable , but the matte / focus surface is not so good . Now i'm thinking about trying Mamiya screen for the other Rolleicord

I had a Oleson screen in my Yashica, a Maxwell in my Rolleicord and now modified a Mamiya one for my Rolleiflex 2.8E2.

The Oleson screen is very nice, but it does not pop into focus well, the original Yashica screen was best at this, the Mamiya and Maxwell screens are both ok in that regard and are nice and bright. I managed to scratch the Mamiya screen slightly when modifying it (altough i was very careful, masked it, put soft tissues underneat, etc.), but only slightly so and it does not really matter much.

Ricks screens are very good for what you pay, but the Mamiya one is better if you decide to cut it.

I did this recently, following the instructions linked to above. I was a bit nervous as the screen cost $45 and it took some pretty serious cutting/breaking to get it right. But it did turn out right (RB67 "A" matte screen converted for a Rolleiflex 2.8F) and, as far as I'm concerned, it has made a substantial improvement to the useability of the camera. And of course the original screen is still there to use.

So give it a go - it is worth the effort.

Just put one in Rolleicord too. And i can say that it's worth the effort and money. Way better than rick's screens, which while bright enough are just not efficient. You need just a really sharp knife to do all the trick :)

Just buy one already cut down from Rick Oleson, if he still sells them. Very nice guy, knows what he's about, good price, bright screen. What's not to like? It's a piece of cake to cut any focus screen down to go in these cameras if you're at all sure handed. Otherwise, go w/ one from Rick.

I think a Maxwell is the best way to go.

I think a Maxwell is the best way to go.

I considered this when I was looking to upgrade the dark original screen of my Rolleiflex 2.8E. I ultimately went with a Maxwell screen professionally installed by Harry Fleenor -- totally worth the money.
