Two M4-P users FS at Bergen County Camera

Bergen County Camera in Westwood NJ has two M4-P's on consignment from a Pro photographer. These are users in the extreme sense of the word. However, they might be the cheapest price you'll ever find a working M leica. I put a lens on one and tried it. The functions worked as well as I could tell but it was very rough. They're asking $449 each. I have no connection to the store or the seller. If you decide to go for it, call them first and get the details. They're very friendly.

They've got a Canon 100/2 w/ hood for $499.95, too. I don't think I've seen one of those for less than $700 recently.

Go for it, Joe. You can always sell it for a lot more if you decide to.

If I were in your shoes, I'd trade it for one of the P's + the 85/2 (+ 100/3.5?). Then you'd have the 35/2 on one, the 100/2 on the other. Also easier to carry around in a bag. But that's me ;).

and the exchange too!

i would ray but i am broke (with the small possibility of being out of work soon).

plus i'm still paying off car repairs.

tomorrow's trip to the camera fair is a foolish proposition but i'm gonna stroll through anyway.

I have never bought from them, but in two different opportunities, I sent them e-mails or left notes about certain items... and they wrote/called back! I was surprised, because I have never gotten that kind of attention before, except from Central Camera in Chicago.

So, chris, they're worth a try, both the store and the cameras.

I'm not quite sure, but I think the person who makes decisions there is Paul Brodek. A kind, very understanding and knowledgeable man... I would have bought a lens from him hadn't I found it somewhere else last year.

Joe, load up a P, look for interesting women. Photograph them and/or hit on them. They won't be at a "camera fair."

They won't be at a "camera fair."

the only females at the fair were some of the sellers.

i'm always up for a good 'portrait' session.

Joe, the photo sessions in Blow Up (Antonioni ...did you see it?) motivated me and many of my pals to buy white background rolls. Think about it ;)

I have not been to Bergen County Camera in Westwood for some time, but they are a well run, honest group, with a knowledgeable staff. Years ago I purchased a 2x Apo extender for my Leica R series system from them. Price was very good and item was in like new condition. Definitely worth giving these people a chance for any purchase. :)

Yes, if they say "as is" you probably WILL have to drop another $200 on it!

I haven't checked in a while (they do have a website) but my experience with them is they are WAAY overpriced with regard to their used gear. A lot of it is consignment, where the seller is expecting a huge return, I guess.

They are a friendly, knowlegable bunch indeed, but price is foremost these days.

There was a time once, when I kinda "stole" a leica CL with 40/2 lens from them because the salesman thought it was broken... (it wasn't, and I could tell, he couldn't.... So much for my "knowlegable" comment about them...)

I dropped Bergen Camera an email regarding the 100/2, and I must say I am impressed with their responses so far. As Francisco mentioned, Paul seems to be very nice and knowledgeable.

The lens is likely a good buy, even if you just resell it on ebay for a profit. But I really don't want to spend that kind of money right now, so I figure someone here might benefit from this:

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the reply.

Glass is clear, no haze, dust or fungus; no oil on aperture blades. The
focus ring turns smoothly with relatively low torque. It comes with a metal
two-piece Canon hood, labelled T-60-S, and a plastic rear cap labelled Canon
A. I'm not certain these are the "original" correct-spec items. Lens
serial number is #15959. It is a Type 2 lens in Peter Kitchingman's system,
'61-'70 production, though the serial number is outside his stated range for
Type 2 lenses. By serial number it's probably '70 or slightly later
production.

Thanks again for the interest. Feel free to ask more questions!

Best regards,

Paul Brodek

I became a bit obsessed about the Leica bodies. I like them... But I also hope somebody grabs them. They're the black bodies with a red dot on the side, not on the top. At least that's what I've seen in all the M4-P photos found in the web.

Heck, I'm going to e-mail Paul just for the heck of it.

BTW, I paid $495 for my battered M3 at National Camera & Video Exchange. I'm not surprised at these prices and I wouldn't be surprised if they were in as good a shape as my M3 was. It only needed recovering... :)

this is killing me...i really want a leica, but for the moment, even these are out of my price range, not to mention that i'd have no glass for them :(

Ray, how much do they want for that? I wanted a wide, but I'm willing to go long for a good price. I'm working and selling prints and selling gear so I should be able to pay off my debt.

Bah. I shouldn't. But humor me anyway? :p

Never mind. Saw the price.

However...that 50/1.2 has a mighty fine price printed next to it...
