Last two main galleries from my Myanmar series now complete
Trip to Mount Popa & Hotel/Self
http://www.pbase.com/nickdemarco/trip_to_mount_popa
A trip to Mount Popa, near Bagan, where wild monkeys line the steps up past Nagas covered in money, some shots on the journey back to Old Bagan including a Palm Oil farm and a great tailor who fixed my broken photography bag perfectly for a dollar, and finally various shots from hotels I stayed in during the trip (in Myanmar and Thailand) including some self portraits

And Myanmar through an M6

I took my brand new Canon 5D Mk II to Myanmar, and with some third party manual lenses I was very happy indeed with the results. But I am glad I took my old Leica M6, just one lens (35mm Summicron f2 with deep red filter to increase contrast) and some Tri-X film, because there is something special about the results.

As always, thanks for looking and for your comments

How about the fool that visited Ahn-Suu Kyu (sp?), exiled leader/ Nobel Peace Prize winner) the other day? What the hell was he thinking? Now he's in the slammer and so is she-two weeks before her house arrest was to end. Maybe it was a set-up?

I read about that guy who swam and, although I don't know the details, it did seem to sum up for me the typical Westerner thinking his democratic free values are so important that he has no regard for the local people and the lack of freedom his actions cause.

There is a lot of controversy about visiting Myanmar. Having been there I am convinced it is the best thing to do for the local people and everyone I spoke to - many who were very anti-government - wanted more visitors. What they did not want was people in organised tour groups, 'government tourists' as one described them to me. Travel independently and be sensative to the local people - don't for example introduce politics into the converstaion unsolicitied - you may be getting someone in trouble. Use common sense. But isolating the country, and the people, actually strengthens the isolationsist regime as well as hurts the people and economy more than most in the West could imagine. I will be going back as soon as I can.

I gotta reject this notion. I don't know the dude, but assessing his bizarre actions as the product of 'western thinking' is a bit presumptuous. A nut is a nut, and every country has'em.

The guy who went into an elementary school in Germany and shot up the place... is than an example of European, or German, or "teutonic" thinking? There are idiots everywhere, and sometimes they get loose from their own countries' cages.

Nick,

I love the work; really beautiful images. I think you could edit a few out, which would make the stronger images stand out more.

I would sequence them differently too, to create more of an impact and to get the viewers to buy into the work right away. I realize this may just be a little gallery for you to see all of your images, which is fine, but a tighter edit would make the work more impressive; it may not really matter though.

For example, The first image I would start with would be, "novices in montone," and all the work after that is pretty solid. I also like the woman sitting in the steps.

I am wondering if you would be interested in trading a print or two? I would really love to trade a print for your image, "novices in monotone."

If you are willing to trade please let me know?

If you are open to the idea, you can view my work at my links below, and also on my old website, which will be coming down soon:
