Newbie question here...

I just recently submitted 4 photos to on online poetry Publication and they've accepted 2 (one I put up here in the gallery).

My question is this:

There was no discussion of enumeration. :bang: Should I expect any then?

Thanks in advance...

As a guy who did indeed choose that career path and is still on it, I can tell you that it consists of a lot of slamming the phone down while screaming and pacing back and forth with a glass of bourbon in your hand. Publishing sucks. But I ended up with a good teaching job in an English department, and a book publisher that pays little but distributes well. I'm happy with this arrangement.

Anyway, there are some little litmags that pay, like Epoch here at Cornell, and they can be stepping stones to bigger venues.

Memphis, what kind of stuff do you write and publish?

I think you meant "remuneration', not enumeration. One is pay; the other is counting.

To agree with the earlier posts, it is a nice picture but you might want to remember two things:

1. an online poetry journal is an academic/hobby "publication" and getting paid is unlikely. The prinicple of contribution to academic/hobby publications is generally "gratis"... a bunch of people who collaborate and share for the cause of knowledge or mutual enjoyment. It is likely that nobody is getting paid... and if anyone is, it is just the editor.

2. getting a picture "accepted" without prior discussion of payment strongly implies that there is no intent to remunerate 😉 submissions. My suspicion is that the minute you mention, after the fact, that you thought you were going to get paid... they will quickly consider retracting that acceptance; and if in the future you mention it at submission time... you won't even get a tentative acceptance.

3. use the situation to your advantage... even a published photo is something as casual as an online publication can be made to look good on your resume, CV, website, or whatever instrument you use to market yourself.

great shot.

you took it for (1) your own pleasure and ours, (2) for the glory of having it published, and (3) [maybe] for the potential money. You got plenty of number 1 and you might a little of number 2; both good things, as you'll likely get none of number 3. I love the shot. congrats on the selection.

Thanks for all the replies.

And your right, I photograph for my pleasure, and to share that pleasure. Being enumerated would make it feel more 'Official' I guess, but that too could be debated. Even if it were just a dollar- symbolic I guess. But, the fact that they were accepted is enough.

I'm on a little high here! 😀

Especially since I consider all the other work on this sight far superior to mine; there are some stunning images here.

I'm finding there is nothing quite like Rangefinder photography.

.

John Carter, meet John Carter?

Carterofmars, money or no money, you should be proud. Whether we like to acknowledge it or not, we all do have egos and it really makes 'em feel good to get recognition.

Is you first name John, Carterofmars?

If it were John, I may now find myself on Barsoom battling for my Queen Dejah Thoris!

Are you a fan of ERB or is John Carter your name?

Thanks Rob for the slap on the back; very appreciated.

On a side note if I may: logged in here at the site, if I'm inactive for a period of time I have to log in again. That's not a problem, but I see a message: 'You've been Banned from the site reason: none given'. Is that normal? I was worried for a moment there, but when I log back in, all was/is well.

I am John Carter, but all I did was read those great books when I was a kid.

What the honor isn't enough for you? Nope, I doubt you will be getting paid but it doesn't hurt to ask...

Kind of off-topic, but why not: Another John Carter. This is one to listen to, not look at. A great (and unfortunately late) jazz musician.

John Wallace Carter (24 September 1928 – 31 March 1991) was an American jazz clarinet, saxophone, and flute player.

The fellow pictured below was this John Carter's musical partner for 35+ years, Bobby Bradford, who, by coincidence, I saw give a show on Sunday last. My small contribution to John Carterania. Have a listen to some of the recordings these two did together. Very good stuff. Bradford was receiving an award after the concert.

So, a tip of the hat to all things John Carter... all John Carters.

Same for me. There must be a better spot to discuss this, though. Pointers welcome.
