I have two rolls of film I want to develop - Neopan 400 and Tri-x – can I process them at the same time in the same tank with rodinal 1:100?

Also, I have a roll of Neopan 400 I have pushed to 800 - should I increase the volume of developer to gain greater negative density?

Thanks!

You will need to use Rodinal at 1:50, 11:00 for Neopan and 13:00 for Tri-X. So no, you should not develop them at the same time.

Well since you want to do stand development, you can ignore the normal times and dillutions, I think you can do them a the same time, stand development doesn't really use 'set' times so...

Yes, regarding Neopan and Tri-X, if both were exposed similarly (best at ASA 320 for Rodinal 1:100 stand).

Regarding Neopan 400 @ 800, try Rodinal stand 1:50. In my experience that works very well. It's what I did here, if you are interested: http://ferider.smugmug.com/Picture-a-Week/PAW-2010/1110-D/14929747_xURdj.

I recommend to think of the dilution in ml per roll - that's all that matters for stand-development. For ASA 320 you need 3ml per roll, for Neopan 400 @ 800 6ml per roll worked for me.

An example:

(note that I use 20' semi-stand, but stand should be the same).

Roland.

There's a tutorial here on stand development with Rodinal. He seems to think 1:100 (3.5mL/roll), 60min should fit all film types, all film speeds so you can mix film types/speed in the same tank. I haven't tried it yet, but being able to change ISO mid roll and develop the same seems pretty convenient if this method gives a useable neg.

Hildebrand is wrong.

1) If film speed wouldn't matter, exposure wouldn't either. Think about it.
2) Dilution is the wrong metric. Since stand is based on developer exhaustion, use developer quantity (in ml).

At nominal film speed and 20 degrees C, use 3ml Rodinal per 35mm film roll. Add Rodinal if you want to push.
