Never noticed this before, or heard it mentioned, but it looks like there are at least two versions of the Nikkor 50/2. I'm guessing the optics are the same, but the nose is different. See these two auctions (which I have nothing to do with):

There was also a collapsible version and a "Hybrid" that used up collapsible lenses but but a rigid tube on them to keeo them from collapsing. Must have been a perception thing, my collapsible lenses for the Contax and Leica work just fine.

In a reference book that I have there seems to be a number of different Nikkor 50/F2 lenses including collapsable and rigid , chrome and black and any number of different markings depending on if it was made during or after the occupation that concluded WWII. Nikon used letters to indicate the number of elements in latin and the addition of the C indicates coating or improved coatings on the lens. I guess that is what makes collecting a lifetime hobby, trying to get all the variations made.

This lens was originally offered as a standard lens on Canon Cameras, ultimately replaced by the Serenar 50/1.9 when Canon began making lenses.
