Two Weeks in Scotland's Highlands

If you get as far as Ullapool, get on a boat trip to the Summer Isles. Look back at the mountains from sea-level; awesome.

FWIW, I like Mull more than Skye.

The train trip when a steam engine is running from Fort William is great.

The roads have improved a lot in the last 45 years. No grass growig in the centre of the single track roads for a start.

If you do get down to Mull, the boat trips to Fingal's cave and Iona are worth doing.

I have one favorite single track road, that I would take whenever I was heading North ( for work ):
A minor road from Lothbeg to Kidonan station - it still had grass in the middle - the only remaining example I ever came across .

I have a basic itinerary plotted out. Now to decide how much I need to make advance bookings. I'm thinking that might make sense in Skye.
