Two wide lens film P&S and B/W film.

Don't know why but we didn't managed to have a lot of pictures with classic P&S.
We have one at home, but it didn't lasts for long enough time to remember it.

Last week I walked into the thrift store and noticed Nikon P&S. Came back next day and took it. Couple of days later I acquired Minolta one from original owner. $15 in total.

Nikon has flash off button and dead AF. Minolta has very soft corners and doesn't load the film at first time, have to try and check it for few times.
Both were made in China.

I loaded both of them with Kentmere 100 and results are below:

One of our daughters keeps now Minolta loaded with b/w film. She likes to have her own camera for b/w and Oly XA wasn't too good for her for focusing.

Nikon... I like it for results at 5m and more. But, because of broken AF, it isn't usable for close up street photography with 28mm prime, which I'm interesting to try without getting of expensive lens for my RFs.

I haunted the Salvation Army and Goodwill stores for a long time, hoping to find some treasures among the junk. Rough handling by either the previous owner, or some idiot customer in the store sometimes renders the nicest camera useless. But I've found quite a few P&S's with nice lenses on them that still work well. Keep looking.

That Kentmere looks nice despite the misgivings of the cameras. And the photos are good too.

Just realized, I've got one of those AF35 Big Finder Minolta's. Was going to give it to Mom until I shot a roll through it. Yours came out much better.

Kentmere 100 is good, not contrasty, it seems, but good in details and tones.

I hope to find P&S similar to those two, but "Made in Japan".

The Nikon P&S after lubricating the lens block started to move it on AF.
Going to play again once rainy days are over.

I thought that "charity shop specials" were myths, until I picked up a very nice Canon TLb for £16 (about $25), with a very sharp 50mm f1.8...

As you say, "keep looking", your boat will come in one day. 🙂

My best find was a Yashica YF with a Canon 1.8/50 LTM. It needs an overhaul, but I cleaned the lens myself, so the $130.00 I paid was worth it for both items.

These fixed focal length, fixed focus P&S can be extremely liberating. I take them to the windy beach where I would hesitate use my best gear. Yet they remove lots of decisions about exp. correction and such, concentrate on timing and framing.

I once found a Contax G1 with a 45mm and 90mm for £10.
It is the best I have ever found in a charity shop. Swapped it for a Nikon F3 with two lenses.
Kinda regret that now. . .

I agree. Here in the USA, Goodwill may have started a trend with shopgoodwill.com. I know the Kidney Foundation now sells some of their higher-end donations to jobbers that then sell on ebay, etc. Also, the back room workers there have a computer to check ebay before pricing (with a consequent doubling of their formerly great prices.)

I have a regular route of three shops that I stop by at least a couple of times a week. It helps to know which day they restock the shelves. Best finds of late:

Olympus Infinity Stylus - $.99
Oly Infinity Stylus Epic - $.99
Minolta SRT-200 and 50/1.8 - $12.00
Yashica Electro GSN (no P.O.D!) - $14.00

And the above is why I have too many cameras! 😛

Camera's full name is Minolta BIG Finder. Surprisingly good results with autoflash.

I also took more pictures with Nikon AF240SV.

Lens on Nikon is more sharp at the edges comparing to Minolta. And darkroom prints are awesome from this lens as well.

28mm lens in this P&S is good enough for me to use it instead of buying 28mm prime for RF cameras I have.

Ko Fe that kentmere looks nice. Love seeing your photo's. I've only been using colour film in my P&S's but after seeing your results I'm going to have to give it a try.
