The black dots are dust on the sensor, that's why they only appear when you're stopped down enough to get them in focus. Otherwise they are too blurred to see. You can clean it with an air blower like the Giottos Rocket, or you can buy a sensor cleaning kit online. DON'T clean it with canned/compressed air.

thanks.. but I mean the weird block rectangle artifact. in the lower part of the frame. I hope it is a SD card problem, but that card worked fine in my previous M8 and M8.2

Is this the only time you got such an artefact? It is certainly the first time I saw one like that, so I tend to suspect some kind of SD card error. The black dots are just a dirty sensor.

A small aperture (f/22) doesn't cause more dust, it just enhances the dust that's already there.
Large aperture (f/1.4) makes the dust almost invisible.

The presence of dust is indeed not. However, the visibility of the dust on the image is certainly affected by the aperture.- Sorry, I see Derek said the same.

I've had the same issue. I get odd artifacts occasionally, but rarely. I've had one similar to yours, once. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's happening often. There are many things that can affect it, but I don't worry, which is always why I shoot a few frames of everything and check the LCD for confirmation.

Well, it should make you happy that I rarely check the LCD, just for exposure on the histogram at the beginning of light conditions and basically use it like an M6...

An aquantence of mine when he first aquired the M9 got blocky artifacts almost immediately on on many shots. he was using a Sandisk card (yes I know there are many Sandisk counterfits out there) that he used on all other digital cameras previously without a hitch. First thing I told him is to get a compeletly different card, both brand, size sped etc. he did and artifacts completly disapperaed, not to return, as far as I know. I've heard this happening with others, so thats the first thing I would try (changing to a completely different card, including the brand), to this out. One other thing is it appears that although the M9 is not a speed demon when it comes to read/write speeds, a very7 slow card aslo causes these types of issues.
