Hi,

I hope this is the right forum for this.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the UK i can get a lens cleaned and serviced. Preferably in the south/kent area.

I have a canon RF 50mm f1.2 that seems to have a hair between the rear element and blades and some other marks.

I hoping someone braver than myself might be able to clean it

Or is there a guide to breaking down one of these lenses? I do have a lens spanner and some tools...

cheers

Interesting, maybe i'll grab a glass of wine and give it ago myself. Then if i mess up completely i can contact one of the guys in london!

Seriously i will have a good go, but if anyone does have some lens specialists around here that would be good to know. I have tonnes of lenses some of which could probably do with a CLA

thank you very much!

Just bear in mind that there is nothing more embarrassing than taking a box that rattles to some technician to sort out ... they save a particularly acerbic Socratic irony for such occasions

If you don't fancy doing the job yourself, it might be worthwhile contacting a local camera repairer to see if they are prepared to take on the job.

For example, you could try these guys:

http://www.gres.co.uk/service.htm

There are others around the London / Sussex area who may also take on the work - i.e Protech Camera Repairs, Harrow Technical (I know they're Pentax specialists, but I think they repair other brand lenses), Sendean Cameras etc.

Hope this is of some help,

John

I sent my M4P to RGlewis and it arrived back many weeks later looking like they hadn't touched it at all. The problem I sent it for was still present, too. Not much good, IME.

Thanks everybody, i dived in an opened it up, as mentioned before it's pretty easy to get in. Everything looked good except for the centre group which has a haze and marking on it.

I believe it's a group and i can see some very small notches for a lens spanner but the one i have is too big. So either i'll have to get another spanner or pass it to someone.

Although i'm wondering whether this is just dirt or something more ominous. Perhaps i should repost this in the appropriate forum now?

Either way i've included a couple of images that show the 'dirt/haze' inside this group.

If anyone has anything to add i'd appreciate it!
