Hi,
Is there enough interest to start a UK-based area here?
Come on guys, amaze me

I think so.
I would find it useful to trade UK-based ideas, information, and resources around rangefinders. Our market is smaller than say the U.S. and often more highly-priced, so its important to spread the knowledge that allows us to best practice our hobby/GAS/work around RFs.
I've been stung too many times recently by ordering stuff from the U.S. and getting presented with duty bill by Customs & Excise.
Cheers,
Ijonas.

Furthermore,
Getting information about exhbitions would be helpful. I recently found out through RFF that there's a Winogrand exhibition in Amsterdam, which I'm going to at the end of the month. Finding out about similar events on a focused-UK forum would be helpful.
You often find stuff by merely browsing as opposed to typing in "what interesting things can a RF-maniac do in the UK this weekend" into Google.

And another here!.....
I don't know how useful a 'UK chapter' would be,...part of the value of this forum is its very international/US orientation and most of the serious UK events are already listed in 'Black and White Photography'

Long time lurker
... and another! Though, admittedly, I'm still in the process of putting the second film* through my first ever rangefinder, having wanted a backup to my trusty old EOS.

* That's discounting the two that I stuffed up through not loading them properly. Damned bottom-loader...

When I suggested a UK (British Isles) chapter, I wasn't meaning that we all had to start wearing denim, getting tattoos and riding hogs - but if that's your thing......
It's sometimes nice to be able to get a "local" spin on things and have the opportunity to meet up for the odd day out / few beers / whatever.
I recently went along to an APUG UK meet in the Lakes and found it both entertaining and educational.
I'm not necessarily for the full "Club" status, coz then you have to have officers and a proper structure - something more like a Group, or a loose association so that it can be kept informal.
BTW, ManGo, I'm up for some of the black stuff with an Islay chaser!

I certainly wouldn't like to lurk for most of the time in a "Brit only" forum but there are certain topics which have a strong regional flavour which might be "lost" otherwise in the mass of other sections. It might be nice to meet another user you have had a discussion with if you are attending an event for instance. However, perhaps more important than this is other region specific information such as recommendations for repairers, dealers and perhaps good photo locations. On other forums, I have quite often found it useful to ask for such info before visiting a new area.

As far as I can tell, I'm the only RF user in the "Sunny South".
And yes, it does feel a bit lonely sometimes wandering around with an M7II hanging from your neck while all around you are discussing photoshop.
Perhaps a contest could be organised to get enthusiasm up?

Not quite the only one, Tony! I'm in (not very sunny at the moment) Brighton.

Hello Brighton Man:
Endless photo opportunities in your part of the south.
I was down that way last week giving jessops grief about traditional darkroom kit.
Took some mediocre snaps of the pier (dead one)
Come to think of it, you could tell your average jessops employee just about anything regarding film as they don't have a clue unless it's in the photoshop manual.
