Hi,
Looking for an updated UK/Europe qualified Contax II restorer to fix a faulty shutter.
I repaired mine previously, and it wasn't particularly enjoyable nor functional. Looking for a recommendation for repair for broken shutter ribbons from anyone who has recent experience in the UK/Europe only?
Many thanks!

Hi,
Newton Ellis in Liverpool repaired mine a while ago; both tapes had broken.
Try here: http://www.newtonellis.com/
I'm not sure about qualifications, who would award them? Experience and a gentle touch and patience and spare parts are more important, imo.
Good luck, David

You could try Ed Trzoska at Euro Photographic Services (0116 267 4247) as he's a Zeiss Ikon specialist, though he doesn't like the Contax I.

I second Newton Ellis, good to deal with and confident on Contax. I have not dealt with Ed Trzoska, he gets good mentions in the forums.

Darren O'Keeffe.
Both suggestions are good. Ed did a superb job on my Contax lla shutter a few years ago and it's still running as well now.
I've used Newton Ellis several times over the years--including for shutter work, but not on Contax--and they've never disappointed.
The only minor issue (with both) is waiting time. Ed took about 4 months and Newton Ellis tend to take 6-12 weeks. Maybe I've been unlucky though: others seem to have had quicker service.
Regards,
D.

If they're good, then you have to wait.

Do they handle international orders? I was gifted a busted II that is beyond my mechanical aptitude.

Don't know--their website (www.newtonellis.com/) says they post to the U.K. and E.U., but that doesn't necessarily exclude the U.S. You could inquire; I've always found them friendly and responsive.

Wouldn't you be better off sending your II to Harry Scherer, in the US though the turnaround time is measured in years?
