I'm hoping some UK based RFF'ers may be able to point me towards a good lens repairer. The blades in my Canon LTM 50mm 1.4 have come away from their moorings and are in danger of bouncing around inside the lens.

I will hold my hand up and immediately admit that I won't be attempting to repair this myself - I'm great at taking things apart but appalling at putting them back together, plus I've got the shakiest hands a photographer could possibly have:bang:

I've used Red Dot in London a few times but would love to hear of other options from those that have used them. I'm based in Suffolk so London and the south are no problem for me to get to, if it needs to go North I may have to send it via the post.

Thanks

Thanks rodt16s, I hadn't heard of Gres before. I'll give them a ring and get some idea of prices.

Anyone else got any recommendations?

CRR Luton - they seem to have a good reputation (never used them myself). I've heard Red Dot can be pricey (and not particularly fast either).

I bought an M5 second hand from a private owner that had a jammed shutter speed dial - it had been CLA'd by them in the last year so they agreed to fix it. They included an invoice which would have come to £400-ish if it hadn't been covered by warranty!

Thanks Christian, I've never heard of them before but I'll give them a ring or, if I have time later today, I'll pop in.

Thanks again

Sorry, not sure how I missed your post when replying to Christian's post.

Now I have heard of CRR in Luton but have never used them, another one to check out - thanks so much.

Red Dot have repaired a couple of my old M6s' in the past, they did a great job and are always friendly and professional but certainly not the cheapest. Also, I think the time frame with the repairs is that their technician works from home and only picks up and delivers once a week...this may have changed by now of course.

Okay that's good to know – I had heard the work they did was to a very high standard.

Just came across this thread and saw gres.co.uk mentioned- just down the road from me and I didn't realise they exist. I will see what they would charge for a service on my M6.

Yeah another vote for Malcolm Taylor or Graham Playford near Tower Bridge. http://www.qype.co.uk/place/1527440-Graham-Playford-Photographic-Engineering-London

Yet another vote for Malcolm Taylor - not the cheapest but certainly one of the best.

It may also be worthwhile trying Protech Photographic Repairs in Uckfield:

They used to do all the repairs for MXV when they were trading, and also for a number of professional photographers. They did a top notch job on my Olympus XA many years ago.
