Sadly our inalienable rights have been slipping south for some time. at one time the police could only keep records if one were convicted or cautioned, and for a more limited period if one were arrested or charged.

But with the politicians vying to the more draconian you’re the past few years many exceptions have been made in pursuit of the twin witches of terrorism and pedophilia

I don’t know what they feed them in the Home Office but they seem to be able to morph the most mild mannered of chaps into Genghis Kahn in no time

Think in terms of "terrorist watch lists," which are usually secret and are notoriously unreliable, generally containing many names of people who are not terrorists, and which contain many names that refer to more than one person (Smith; Wong; Kim; Mohammed). Add to this de facto racial profiling, and I think you'll have a better idea of what they're getting at.
