Ukrainian Film Factory? Svema lives!

I send my best wishes to the country of Ukraine, and to a prosperous future!

Well my visit to Kiev in Spring this year: Fomapan 400 in the C.V. Bessa III 667, developed in Diafine 2-bath iso 400.

How sad Maidan is:

Last weeks I was in L'viv, also a very interesting city in the utmost West of Ukraine 70km from the Polish border. This time with my Leica M7 filled with Kodak XX film.

I've wanted to try some of the Svema films, they were always just too expired or in too bad shape to buy if they were affordable. And if they are in good condition, they are usually expensive. eBay is full of overpriced stuff like this.

I've shot a few rolls of Svema which came from the Film Photography Project. It has a muted, almost pastel palette and for some subjects it definitely works.

Below is a shot of one of the Madison County bridges using Svema film.

Thank you! (Cnacubo!!!) for the pics and news, fotohuis and colleagues.
Thought Svema was gone forever. But, thanks to you I realised that maybe film is no longer made but still sold with the Svema brand.
Been in Kyiv (lovely city, and in front of the Arsenal factory in Arsenalna), been in Lviv as well, and would like to go back. Very friendly and helpful people.
Thank you again for your input!
Oh, bought several items from Ukraine and arrived alwais in perfect shape. No problems whatsoever.
Best regards from Spain

Nice country!
The Ukrainian flag!

This is a fascinating thread, aside from Svema film -- most all of it is pre-Russian annexation in 2014. A lot of interesting, rather uninformed, comments about the country from non-Ukrainians, showing how little seems to have been known about Ukraine prior to 2022.

Hello guys!

I'm from Ukraine's capital - Kyiv.
Fotofond is, I think, the best film photography shop (if not only) here in Kyiv. Though small, it offers wide variety of films, chemicals, paper, etc. They even have some old cameras to sell. But, you know, although they have a site, it's mostly for informational purposes. Quite a few times I found out great differences between what's in stock online, and what's really at their shop. Though one time I was lucky to buy a pack (5 rolls) of fresh Provia at the price of expired :) They're funny guys to deal. I recommend you though to address Astrum Ltd. directly, it will be significantly cheaper.

As to Astrum's films, as far as I know, they're not manufactured at Svema plants, because there are technically none left. Modern Svema films are just repacking of the other. And there's no way to tell, because there's no perforation markings at all, not even the frame numbers.

Up to this moment I've tried two Astrum films - Svema Foto 400 and Svema A-2SH (А-2Ш). Feel free to ask questions! :) Examples follow.
I fully support the interlocutor after several))) years).

Would your comment like this be the fourth? or the fifth? there is a take with the eye closed as well, but here the eye is looking directly into the viewer's eyes))))))
(and a little glitter!) ;)
Just a little humor on my part -- only a photo nerd would notice that the very attractive model didn't have her eye closed. Some very nice pictures here!

Nice pictures indeed. Well, I have only seen misery in the East and South part of Ukraine. In Mykolayiv, where I still have one appartment I helped with the search of victims from the Russian rocket attack in a children garden. The biggest nightmare in my life searching for children body parts around the impact. For the rest I have given some seminar on Leopard tanks, for me 43 years ago, then they were pretty new in the Dutch army, now we even do not have any more.

That would be the photo hipster. The nerd knows (as he uses to read books where such things are explained) that it comes with advantages having both of your eyes open. He already trained his brain to take pictures this way. It is a gentle learning curve, you rapidly become accostumed to it.
