I just ran across these camera bags: http://www.wotancraft.com/home.htm (Pro Camera Bags-002 Ranger) looking for watchstraps. They're pretty pricey, but damn pretty. Anybody got one...or two (ha)

I find the finishes a bit tacky, but they do appear very high quality!

They certainly don't look vintage to me. Have you ever seen a picture off such a thing in (say) the 1930s, 40s or 50s? Or encountered an old bag from that era which looked anything like them? Personally I think they're hideous, which only goes to show that people's tastes vary.

The bag to hide your camera in during gothic cosplay!
Do they sell the waterproof inserts separately? These would make a nice addition to generic bags.

I currently have my eye on a little Fogg bag. Now those are cool!

these look very well made, although i cant say i care for any of their designs. Seems like just another boutique bag maker, trying to capitalize on the infamous Leica gear snobs.
Just another thing to pointlessly waste money on. Ide say these bags make Domke look like a bargain bin find from target.
Godspeed makes really nice domke clones, and even better prices. Ide say the craftsmanship is on parr with even the most expensive bags. Ive owned 2 and I still have both. Although Domke canvas seems to take pavement wear a little more attractively.
thanks for sharing!

Those bags are ridiculous. I wouldn't be caught dead using one of those. Stick to Billinghams or Domkes. They're the best.

Hey, despite the kneejerk reaction from the other members here (I would take RFF fashion recommendations with a grain of salt... or two), I think these bags are super nice. The pictures of them are a bit gaudy - too much flash, but I bet they look super nice in real life. I especially like the messenger.

I like my Domke, but it's worn very very quickly and looks quite tatty - enough that I feel a little embarrassed to be using it when the going gets a little dressy.. I have a crumpler that, while not quite as cool looking as the '1980s photojournalist' style domke, hasn't worn a smidgen and still looks as feels new, despite having probably 3 times the use and abuse that the domke has had...

Yuck. Those bags look terrible.
If I had that much money for a camera bag, I'd get one custom made in natural, untanned leather which eventually darkens and wears beautifully with constant use. Kind of like a brassed, Black Paint Leica.
Imagine a bag finished like this:
Which eventually turns to this after heavy use:

The best camera is one that still works!

Interesting you should say that. I love my little Domke F-5xb but I am suprised how quickly it's managed to look like something from a disposals store!

hi, I like the bags. A little pricey for me, but to each their own. I was in similar predicament a couple of years ago. I wanted the perfect leather bag. Being cheap and a little cocky, I made my own. It is not as hard as you might think. It is tedious, but very rewarding. Since then I have been commissioned to make 5 others (sold at 250.00) a piece. I would make a living out of it if it didn't cut in to my camera time so much. I would suggest anyone looking into it.

I dare say that the quality of the domke is somewhat over-rated - I still really like mine and will be looking for a f3x soon, but the crumplers are a similar price (and while being a fairly different style) are much tougher/more durable bag IMO. It's a Melbourne based company too I believe!

Do you have any pics of the bag you made? I've been really tempted to do this many times...

Actually some Wotancraft bags look very nice. Not sure why they only link to the hideous ones from their home page.

The way to go is to get a good leather non-camera bag, and if you absolutely need padding, use an insert like those made by Domke, Billingham, Tenba or Ona Bags. There's a huge number of companies that make old-fashioned looking bags: Saddleback Leather, J.W. Hulme, Mulholland, Filson, Tusting (available from Levenger) and many others. And of course, there is also Billingham, Fogg and M-Classics.
