No, the target market is commercial video and film makers. Watch the YouTube clip, and think of the many commercials that use a macro 'glide' through/past objects or between small objects. Many food commercials are shot with probe lenses like this.

It may be my fanciful thinking but I see some spillover from cinema lenses into their still lenses. To me they seem quite cinematic and retro. Kind of what Cooke has in the lenses that can be used as still lenses. And Cooke's sweet, old Amotal.

i have seen people use probe lenses for tidepooling - they work well to see into crevices or just beneath the water line
i imagine they would work better in situ for a lot of kinds of small wildlife than a traditional macro kit
