Ultron 35/1.7 ltm on Canon 5D

Anyone have any experience with a cockamamie idea like this?

I think it would go really nice, but was wondering if anyone has done it first.

Yep. No way for a 35mm rangefinder lens to work on a 35mm SLR. Stick to other SLR lenses on the 5D. Leica, Nikkor, Olympus, Zeiss, etc. will work on the 5D. Alas, Canon's own FL-FD lenses won't work on the 5D.

Re: FD lenses on a 5D - Kood and Novaflex both make FD to EOS adaptors.

Yeah, with a bad piece of glass in it to adjust the infinity focus. Degraded performance is hardly a recommendation for an adapter.

I'll never understand why Canon abandons their mounts.

I wasn't recommending them. If they are as bad as you say they are, then, you've saved me some money. Thanks.
 
Canon works better with other MF lenses than their own - which is kind of funny (C/Y, M42, Leica R, even Nikon and Pentax).

I understand there was an engineering problem going from manual to auto-focus. Still, they just walked away from FD gear. I checked fairly thoroughly into the adapters, and found the same info you did. I dumped my Canon system because of that, and the fact that it was becoming less likely that I'd use it since getting into rangefinder cameras. My T90 is now an expensive paperweight - it's not worth fixing - another item Canon abandoned. At least F1Ns can be maintained, as far as I know, but I dumped an F1N as well.
 
Well, perhaps Canon knew what they were doing abandoning the old mount. Nikon maintained compatibility with their old lenses and it took them years to recover the market lost to Canon.

Yep. They lost me as a loyal customer because of the way they pushed their gear knowing all the while they were going to switch it out. I has a load of FD stuff, which unfortunately all got stolen in 1985, right after I had decided to go with a different system for future company purchases. I went with Olympus OM. Oh well.
