Am I missing something here? the trust deny they are authentic and are suing for copyright infringement both at the same time

According to the article they are suing for trademark infringement, among other things, not copyright infringement.

I think they have some good evidence for them to be authentic if you look on the surface.
If they are real they were probably just remnants of the process of his work, or they were done/labeled by an assistant/student working alongside Adams.

If this controversy keeps up the yard sale negatives/prints will
achieve "famous fake" collectible value in themselves regardless of

That is correct among other things. What I found interesting in the Yahoo article was their claim that the photographs are dirivitive at best. They may have hoisted themselves on their own petard.

Loathesome the way lawyers are immediately sent in with threats and over the top demands on any issue these days. There are less repulsive ways in which a dispute about authenticity should be resolved.

Trademark disputes and unfair competition claims are about money. Maybe the "debate" over authenticity is a smokescreen asserted to allow the Norsigian prints to continue to be sold as Ansel Adams's works; if they are not authentic, their continued sale dilutes the value of genuine ones and unjustly enriches the seller of the impostor works. So, in your less repulsive scenario, who declares that the authenticity debate is over, and how is the winner declared? What's the civilized way to resolve a scramble over money? What's the gentlemanly way to claim someone is appropriating your good tradename to make money at your expense?
The reason we resort to law to resolve disputes is that gentlemen used to resolve them by pistols at dawn.
I'm sure the AA Trust and its loathesome lawyers will dearly miss your $0.02.

Well, it sounds like the only guy left out of the $$ is Uncle Earl.. just a guy who liked to take nice photos in Yosemite Valley. Mr. Norsigian may make money selling prints.. if the Adams trust is able to prove their case, Mr Norsigian will have to pay the trust for damages.. or close up shop at the least.
What about Uncle Earl.. left in the dust. I think Earls relatives should join with the Adams Trust in their suit!

If you've asked your self "how did Adams get to be so famous" ( I'm not discounting his talent here !) here is a chance to see the Adams PR machine in action. I don't know what It cost for a PR firm to place all this stuff at the same time.. I would love to see an Adams Trust, Press Release..
