Understanding EBL (effective base length)

I know that this is not rocket science but I am trying to understand how this works. AN R3A has a 1:1 finder so its EBL is the same as measures=37mm. The R2A has 37mm x .7=26mm. Now if you add a mag eyepiece to the R2A like the one here http://www.unicircuits.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=112 do you get roughly 34mm for EBL. This would make it close to the R3A wouldn't it?

If this is true couldn't you buy an R2A and add the eyepiece when needed for the longer lenses or larger aperture lenses? Or are these eyepieces degrading or distorting and you won't get the same nice view you get htrough the R3A? They would seem to be around $80.00 with shipping so it would be better than buying an R3A and an R2A.

Does this make sense or was it an all-around dumb question?

Just a guess, but the magnifier may work well with the 90mm frame-lines. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the meter won't be visible, either.

I wonder if anyone has tried this magnifier with the R2 or R2A? It wouldn't be good if the meter wasn't visable.

This is the main reason I love the T. She has enough RF length for the lenses I like to use from time to time (85/2, 105/2.5, 135/2.8). It is also why I am liking the Nikon S2 more and more.

Magnifier on R2A?

Magnifier on R2A?

Thanks Bill, I have seen some of the links, but they were a help. I understand EBL better. Now, has anybody here actually used the magnifier on an R2A? Is it practical?

I use the Leica 1.25x on my M7 for when I'm using the 90 cron open and close. I can see the meter but the 28 frame is gone for me. I've not bought one for my Bessa R yet (Leica one does not fit the Bessa R) for if I want to shoot my CV 90 wide and close, to be honest I find the 75 'close' enough. I'd also be interested in a review of the CV compatible mags.
