Art, I've just "spring loaded" the first film in my IIIc. Having too many thumbs made it somewhat difficult. But the film is advancing as it should, and I look forward to seeing properly placed images on it.

I'm happy that you have sprung into action. 🙂 Boy, is that bad.
I think you will find the method effective. It has worked for me for a long time. The talk about loosing the spring is not as bad as it seems. Remember it as you do your lens cap.

The way you put it, my future may be secure. I haven't ever -- and that means many cameras, many lenses, since the beginning of the 1960s -- lost a cap. Never used any "keeper" other than bag or pocket.

If you go to a putatively Chinese eatery, Art, and ask for a Spring Roll, you will not get a cassette of 35mm film with a small conical spring on the side, er, end. I thought it was terrible, but if you have no problems with it...
