Unfavorable review of RD-1 at Trusted Reviews

Ding dong. That review is just shilling from "the other" rangefinder maker who isn't quite there yet with their digital M they've been taking about for 3 years. 😎

Playing a little Devil's advocate here, but the reviewer just seems to be giving a personal opinion.

Yeah, but it's a personal opinion backed up by a lot of misinformation. If he had simply said, "I don't see the point of this camera and I don't like it," that would be uninformative but honest. But instead he supported his opinion with a lot of completely erroneous "information."

Calling a reviewer a moron because he doesn't like your favorite camera doesn't really provide any additional information on which to base one's decision.

Well, he called ME (and everyone else who owns an R-D 1) stupid for buying one, so turnabout is fair. Besides, criticizing a camera for not having a rubber ring around the eyepiece when it DOES have such a ring, or for having a mechanical shutter when EVERY interchangeable-lens digital camera has a mechanical shutter, does border on the moronic.

(Where did he get his review sample, anyway? Somebody had filched the eyepiece ring, and gotten the sensor dirty, and he blames Epson for both these "faults"...?)

Any photographer who's interested in this camera is going to have a pretty good idea about rangefinder cameras in general and what they are well-suited for. They will take this review for exactly what it's worth (wasn't that a nice way of saying "garbage"?).

That may sound a bit snobbish but honestly, RFs are pretty much a niche item in the film world too. I can't say the lack of a movie mode has ever bothered me much, though 😀.

Francesco, make that 1500 Euro and I might forget about the ZI and 35mm Biogon and all the film I won't get processed at Fuji 🙂

Sorry but I don't want to rip you off, I just discovered another defect with my RD-1: the autofocus is a bit erratic, it does not work at all with my Nokton at f1.4, however it seems to be able to lock focus pretty well with my CV 12mm at f11, go figure. 😛
So I can't in all conscience sell a faulty camera, I guess I'll be forced to keep it.
