I'm attaching a file showing a kind of interesting-looking "special effect" that I created by accident with my R-D 1.

What I did was overexpose the raw file by about 3 stops, then apply -3 stops of exposure correction in my raw conversion program (Adobe Lightroom beta 3, in this case) to get the density range back to normal.

The resulting picture looks to me a bit like the result of "cross-processing" color film. I realize it's possible to create similar-looking effects in an image editor, but for me the look of that isn't quite the same as what I'm getting here.

Now my quandary is whether to accept this as an interesting but useless accident, or to try working more with the effect to get it controllable and repeatable, and then find suitable subject matter to which to apply it...

The effect looks quite good with this high contrast subject. You might need to experiment with different levels of light/contrast to see where it is most suitable.

FWIW you get a similar result with underexposure and then applying exposure correction. This also gives some "grain" in the form of digital noise - sometimes pleasing, sometimes not.
