Hi to all,

does such a thing exist, no matter if metal or foldable, screw in or slip on ?

The original CV shade is extremely expensive in Germany , 75 Euros and it is a universal one too for 21 to 35mm!
Once I was told B&W makes universal 39mm shades which fit for the 4/25 angle , unfortunately I lost that link.

Thanks for all input, 🙂

On my CV 25 lens, the lens hood threads are on the outside of the lens barrel, the opposit of where they normally are, so a normal 39mm threaded hood (or filter) can not fit.

on a CV 4/25 ????????
How do you use filters ? Inside a 39mm thread ?

I'll check this out when I get home. Does anyone have a CV 25mm lens in front of them? Does the hood (with inside threads) screw onto outside threads on the lens barrel, or am I just just remembering a vivid dream?

There is an outside thread for the shade and an inside thread for 39mm filters. Thus, the outside thread is not 39mm. I don't think there is a reason that You cant use the inside thread for an aftermarket shade other than it might look strange with the outside threads unused. Or you might refer to the CV square hood? I know nothing about that one. It looks cool though. I only use the shade that came with the lens and I have noticed about three or four really flared pictures out of maybe 300. OK, it has been winter and I live in Sweden, but we occasionally see the sun here too...

What is interesting, is the thread on the outside of the barrel. Many filters have a matching male and female thread on either side for stacking. If it's 40.5mm, I could use the same filters between my M-Hexanon 50/2, and reversed on the CV 25/4..

Anybody know the outside thread?

Bertram, you can find the thread here.

Justin,
thanks for the link ! Looks really good ! The only disturbing thing is the cardboard material, if it gets wet from some drops of water the work is spoiled.

I've seen similar things in the web, once somebody made a shade from the upper part of a large 1.5ltr plastic waterbottle, as a slip-on hood.
But I have to consider if this would be worth while all the fuss.Maybe I'd better order that original hood at Robert White for about 45 Euros, at least 30 Euro less than in Germany.

Thanks again,
Bertram

Bertram, the paint I use makes the hood rather water resistant, and I haven't had problems using it in a light drizzle. I've never shot in a thunderstorm before, so I can't say that the hood would last through that.

I could never bring myself to spend so much on lens hoods...
