unscientific comparison X100s vs DP2

A friend of mine just got the X100s and has a Sigma DP2 - here's a comparison, which is which, first the more or less full frame, then a crop

The main visible differences are the darker black point on the right and the more saturated reds on the left.

Are these out-of camera JPEGs? If not, what RAW workflows were used?

DP2, or DP2M? Assuming the latter, I would also agree that the DP2M is on the right. If you go find full rez images on Flickr (or wherever), and compare them at 100%, you will see that the Sigma is much sharper than the Fuji X series at the pixel level. It would appear that having to do the de-mosaicing still puts a bite on the Fuji output. However, I've compared a DP2M and a Pentax K5, and printed them at 12x18 (inches), and the difference is pretty subtle at that size. So unless you're printing poster-size or pixel-peeping at 100%, it's probably not a big deal. But I do like the Sigma images.

Again: JPEG or RAW? If RAW, how processed? And shot at what ISO?

In general I'd expect the Sigmas to have a slight edge at ISO200 but for the Fuji sensors to be better at 400 and above. But comparisons are not useful (=reproducible) if we don't know what the parameters were.

I believe these are JPG not RAW and the sigma was a DP2 not Merrill

Raw would be far more telling. Sigma's in-camera jpegs do not bring out the real potential of the x3f files, in terms of colour, sharpness and that Foveon 'pop'. Still, it is interesting to see how close both cameras look when comparing OOC jpegs. The DP2 has obviously been upsized, though.

+1 I felt the same way too, there isn't much difference between the two IMO.

It was immediately obvious to me that it is not merrill. As for jpeg, I've never even tried it with mine.
