Unseen work by Henri Cartier-Bresson in American Photo

Magazines love to breathlessly proclaim that pictures they exhibit are "never before published". Probably any name photographer had/has mountains of pictures that were, to coin a phrase, left on the cutting room floor.

In C-B's case, as with many others, this will probably go on for quite some time. And these days, they take 127 or so shots to get one cover photo. C-B himself may not have been quite so profuse with film, but I'm sure they will keep coming up, for a while, with "never before published" pictures.

Even Magnum has released a book with "never" before published photos by HCB. Whether that claim is true or not, I don't but I did see some shots or versions I had not seen (or just once in some obscure place) previously.
