Unwrapping the R-D1 and some tests...

Can you really get it to "shoot" without taking the lens cap off.

I havn't found that bit in the manual yet! :D

Sure, of course you can shoot without taking off the body cap, not lens cap! You get very dark pictures. All you need to do is take a pin to the body cap and you can shoot pinhole photographs! This is for people who can't afford to buy even one lens after buying this camera body. There are some instructions on the net. Very cool, actually...

Maybe you missed my saga, but I forgot to buy the adaptor ring so my 35mm Ultron wouldn't fit the body. I couldn't do any test shots after unwrapping the camera....

Is the "Our Gift to You" piece just for the US market? That wasn't in my package (UK).

thank's for your gallery, I went into most of them, photos are really nice. Though the few reproches I read on some complicated technical articles on the web (I did not understood most of them). Quality is very good .

You look cool and joyfull on your photo. Images are sharp with beautiful tones. Better than any scan.

Thanks for your comments. I see we have the same name. Laurent in French is the same as Lawrence (Larry) in English.

I'm glad you enjoyed some of the photos. I'm still trying to become proficient with the camera. It is going to take a while. I'm excited about the possiblities with this camera and think it is going to help me become a better photographer. It is too easy to stop thinking when you shoot an DSLR and rely on the automatic modes. You're more involved when you shoot the R-D1.

I tried to read through it and I had my wife (she's French) translate parts of it for me. Overall, I think it is a positive review. It mentions a few problems like having to press the shutter button twice (once to wake up and once to shoot) when the camera is asleep. It complains a little bit about the framing issues, and problems with reading the viewfinder if you have glasses.

We're planning a trip to France (Nice, Provence) in a few months. I'm looking forward to taking this camera along. It really is the perfect size for traveling. Maybe I won't look so much like a tourist if I carry this instead of an SLR. :)
