I'm lost. What's the scam and what makes it so ridiculous? I must be missing it.

I agree with Rich. I don't follow Olympus so not sure of price declines etc. for this model but generally, film SLR prices are plummeting!

Sounds as if this fellow just wants to get a quick sale of something he got for nothing.

It's not an Olympus it is an "Olympia professional SLR look automatic camera".
And if this seller really bought one for 249 pounds, I've got some stuff to sell him!
The interchangeable lenses are a new(to me anyway) twist.
It's probably made on the same production lines that make squirt guns.
But I'd like to try one if the price were in line with the crappy goodness of the camera. And the lenses might make an easy way to have different focal lenght pinhole lenses.
Or get two and hack 'em into a panoramic.
Could be fun.

So would I! Gentlemen, this is a toy camera that is usually given away free with something costing nothing!

Well, that being the case - this isn't so much a scam as it is a fraud. Either way the buyer gets "screwed".

Aplogoies to Jocko for not realizing his perceptive catch!

As said, not an Olympus but an 'Olympia'. Take a good look, how many SLRs have a viewfinder window in the front of the camera and left of the lens and pentaprism?
Its a piece of cheap plastic crap worth at the most 99p. It might be fun as a kind of Holga type toy with changeable lenses, but that's about it.

I'm still lost - which may just be me being very slow - but I still don't see how it's either a scam or fraud.

The Olympia plastic cameras were sold new at prices varying from 50-100 dollars (poor memory but somewhat along those lines) and that was without the three lens kit. Obviously the camera is a piece of crap but even Holgas now run for 20-30 dollars and the older Dianas can fetch two-three times that.

How is selling this 'camera kit' at 0.99 pound (which is the reserve) to 50 pounds (which I doubt it would hit) a fraud or scam?

If it's because it's made out of plastic and buyers may hope that it's more feature filled than it is - then shame on the buyer for not taking the 25 seconds it takes to google it.

Errr...did you read ALL of the thread before firing away?

I placed a bid for £1 (with £5.99 shipping is about the maximum I am prepared to pay for that piece of crap) But the reserve has not been met, I may go up to £4 (total £10) but that may be a little too much for a toy.

No Rich - it wasn't so much the camera - which does look fun. It was the seller's absurd claims that I found amusing and wanted to share in the interests of spreading a smile around the globe 🙂

Sorry, still lost. What are the absurd claims? That he has taken beautiful photos with a camera like that? What's to say he hasn't? I've seen gorgeous photos taken with Holgas and pinhole cameras. Still don't see the scam/fraud some people have called out for here.

Well, there's those Alpa cameras but those aren't new and they're metal and glass so I bet they wiegh alot. And they're old. 😀

I personally wouldn't call this a scam but I bet the maufacturer is certainly hoping poeple will confuse the name with Olympus.
More power to the seller if he can sell this. I don't believe s/he paid 249 pounds. Well, not for one, anyway. Maybe for 10 or 20 or more. Wholesale price is likely fairly low. But that is only my speculation.
Any one who buys this expecting a "serious" camera is a victim of their own ignorance.
Way back when, an aunt of my dad's gave him every christmas for about ten years a "Beatle's" album. (not the same one each time) The title was something like "Hollywood Strings Play Meet The Beatles" this camera reminds me of that.
"Happy birthday, honey! I got you a camera since I know you're into that photo stuff. It's a Professional one. Says so right on the box. Have fun!"
