Sorry, still lost. What are the absurd claims? That he has taken beautiful photos with a camera like that? What's to say he hasn't? I've seen gorgeous photos taken with Holgas and pinhole cameras. Still don't see the scam/fraud some people have called out for here.

I think its the claim that he just bought one for 250 pounds last winter....

He's selling a "JVC" camcorder as well. I know the pictures a very poor but can anyone see a JVC logo on either the camera or the packaging? Is this one dodgy too or am I becoming cynical.

No Paul, you're not. I've just googled and it turns out that these cameras are known fakes sold by unscrupulous traders - the internet is full of warnings about them, as here http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7594-0.html?forumID=59&threadID=92392&messageID=1259052

Could our friend be a fibber?

I guess it is not a scam, we can't prove that he didn't pay £245 for it.

Funny thing is that I bet someone somewhere actually collects these and would get all excited about the lenses still being in the high quality plastic bags.

A few years back as a student on the look for something for nothing, I went to a auction clearance of bankrupt stock. After a load of deals which didn't seem to bad they came to the last lot - a job lot of quality slr cameras- all boxed up - just £90. Many of the audience, dismayed that, they had missed out on the other bargains, were baying for the boxes. My flatmate bought one. Rather than the illustrious Olympia mentioned about it was a Nikkeroid or something.

It was a load of crap. I think the lenses were actually plastic. 😀

Funny thing is, If I had one now, I'd probably run a roll of TMax through it, just to see. 😉

Wow,

Maybe I can finally get rid of this Leica crap and upgrade to some serious pro gear...

I've seen this sort of camera labelled 'Cannon' or even 'Canon' on ebay before... The funny thing is that they usually have bids up to $30 or so... It puzzled me for a while, but then I resigned to the fact that these weren't stupid people bidding, just aliases of the seller trying to suck the unthinking in.

I saw one sun. that looked almost the same but was Black and said Canon MGM-1 on it. Hum I didn't think it was a real Canon but you never know. lol
Canon MGM-1
That one doesn't have the interchangeable lenses 🙁 but it does have the all important "look down screen" 😀
One bid of $19.99 and I suspect the bidder wanted the case as much(or more) as the "Canon".
I may have to start looking for one or two of these. If I can find 'em at the right price point($10-$20 is about all I'm willing to spend on a toy like this).
Crappy but fun cameras, I think.

Take a good look, how many SLRs have a viewfinder window in the front of the camera and left of the lens and pentaprism?

Some Alpas and all Praktinas, to name two. But to paraphrase a past political cheap-shot applause line, this is no Alpa or Praktina

Its a piece of cheap plastic crap worth at the most 99p. It might be fun as a kind of Holga type toy with changeable lenses, but that's about it.

You've got to admire the audacity of the "SLR look" nomenclature, though...

Could be worse - A Lomo

What is this bashing of perfectly reputable cameras like the Holga nd Lomo cameras? 😛

They are nothing like the rubbish being sold at that auction, my Lubitel (made by Lomo) can take excellent pictures, and my smena symbol (another camera by Lomo) is really a lovely and capable little camera. 😀

I placed a bid for £1 (with £5.99 shipping is about the maximum I am prepared to pay for that piece of crap) But the reserve has not been met, I may go up to £4 (total £10) but that may be a little too much for a toy.

I suspect the reserve may be close to £50 to make the scam worthwhile.
