Upgrade promises

The M9 is the same body size as the M8, and though it might not be technically possible to upgrade an M8 to M9, people who bought the M8.2
might have a reason to be ticked off at Leica,thinking that they had bought a" camera for life"..... I am beginning to wonder if Leica may indeed offer some sort of a trade in deal as a way to mollify the "outrage" that some

Canon have 1.6 crop, 1.3 crop and FF cameras all of which have been upgraded over time. No reason why Leica shouldn't be the same - X1, M8.2 and M9 - look out for the M8.3.

I'd be surprised if owners made the decision to buy their M8's believing there could never be a full frame M.

However, the M8 will still do what it has done before today, for many years to come, so it still is a 'camera for life'.

...as opposed to the M9, which if the price rumours are true, is a 'camera for life savings'!

Yeah I know what you are talking about on the upgrades thing. I seem to remember it was one of those cheese's that said the M8 was a modular design that could be upgraded in the future with the possibilities of swapping out components for new things etc etc. Maybe that will be the extra big surprise announcement in an hour. If it isn't, whoever said it was lying.

Maybe we can manage to enter into the phase where involving disgruntled emotionally scarred M8 customers demand special treatment based on overblown interpretations of diffuse half-sentences by CEOs that have been fired in the meantime, all before the product in question is even released.

It will be interesting to see if there are many more firmware upgrades from Leica for the M8/M8.2

I can't see Leica turning around and treating the M8 like last weeks news just because all their eggs are fairly obviously in the M9 basket ... they've been trading for years on the nostalgic karma of the M line and the M8 is after all another M that has it's roots firmly in the early nineteen fifties!

There will definitely be continued support. I think the fact that the M9 body shares so much with the M8 is proof that there will be longevity in the line and ample supply of repair parts for years to come.

As for firmware support. I was wondering if Leica will rewrite the M8 and its controls to function more like the M9. All the same buttons are there.

It is upsetting that the M8 won't be able to be upgraded again. But I think keeping it as current as they did. Offering all the M8.2's benefits was good enough. I just hope they do the same when the M9.2 comes around. i really want those upgraded framelines. And don't want to be excluded for buying early.

Anyway, (M)9 more minutes. We'll see what they have in store.

The M8's aren't old. As of right now they're still the top of the Line M.

I imagine the used market will float for quite awhile. After the intial surge of unloaded M's. people will come to realize it's their only viable option for a digital M.

but used M8s do build the Leica customer base - which equates to more lenses sold, and potential for more items sold in the future. it also means that *hopefully* the seller of said M8 upgrades to the M9.

I don't care about the crop factor on the M8 but I'd LOVE to get rid of the :bang::bang:stupid filters:bang::bang: it needs. They annoy the hell out of me on a daily basis.

Just today received a black Canon 50mm f1.2 LTM and now I have to buy a 55mm IR-cut filter to slap onto it:bang::bang:
