I cannot seem to upload images at the old size - 8"x6" @72dpi. Seems that I cannot upload anything bigger then 5"x4" @72dpi. The images are so small. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks.

I think it's related to the change to the one tier membership (no more member premiums like larger uploads and free classifieds) but also no membership fee.

Some people seem to applaud this change.

Have you tried reducing the resolution of your JPEG images? You can usually do this and not detect a difference in the image quality on the web. Try converting at a medium setting. This will reduce the file size while maintaining the image size.

There's been a few threads about this now. I agree, 150kb is too small, and will do nothing other than reduce the quality of the gallery here, and discourage people from posting. Since the gallery is easily the best part of the forum, this is a terrible shame.

Moderators, Steve,

If anyone is reading this, can we please do something about sizes for uploading? 150kb is way to small. An image at 8" on the long @72 dpi should be the maximum.

If bandwidth is an issue, I liked Jon Claremont's idea: reduce the number of pictures that can be posted in a day, and increase the size. Unless the aim is just to turn RFF into a gear forum, with no decent gallery.

Absolutely no insult intended, I read your advice to email him as suggesting that Stephen was not aware of the threads. After all, I have no idea what the mods have communicated to him or how much of the forum he has time to keep an eye on. If the threads have already been pointed out to him then maybe he's decided good quality images are not such a high priority for his forum. I'm certainly not attacking you or any other mod.

no worries...

it's one thing to read a thread or hear from the mods but if people send a p.m. it shows they are serious about the request and i think the impact is different.
plus, i'm not really sure what stephen reads on the site so best to 'tap him on the shoulder'.

I just tried to load some images that are about 100k in size, and even those won't load. They measure 899 pixels on the longest side, the maximum size for posting on forums.
Exactly what are the limits on size? Some number of pixels on a side? Or maybe some number of kb? Or is something else wrong?

O.K., searching around on this subject, I found someone who'd figured out their queue was full and that they couldn't load anything until they had emptied it.
My queue contains 5 images... but I don't see how I would go about emtying it so I can try again.
Anyone know how to do this? Or do I just have to wait 24 hours?

I'm a little mystified by the fuss over file dimensions.... I can size a typical color JPEG to 799 pixels on the long side (800 has been a stated limit), apply a bit of sharpening and a border, then slide the JPEG compression down to easily attain less than 150k file size (Save for Web) without visible loss of quality. I've not had any problems uploading such a file, but haven't tried recently. There have been glitches in the past during which site software wasn't working properly. Something might be "broken" now I suppose...

I think maybe what I did wrong wasn't file sizes that are too large, but that I tried to load 10 of them at once.
Either way, my queue is full, no images have appeared in my gallery, I can't load more, and I don't see how to empty the queue.
Anyone have suggestions? I've got a new series I just printed and would like to put it online.
