Whoa, I read through that entire thread on LUF and this thread here on RFF.

I am not interested in the concept of boring, but I am curious about some of the concepts behind pmu's project.

My first question is for you to elaborate on your response to BillP. Bear in mind that as a matter of fact there were people who did write considered opinions on the LUF thread. What I wonder is whether you just simply deny this fact or you dispute the view that the considered opinions offered were just not constructive? Either way I am curious enough to ask why you think so.

I do accept there were some very considered opinions on the LUF thread, but they were in the minority. Not one person picked up on the original reason for starting the thread and hardly anyone questioned the project - it was more a case of dismissing it. Some people seemed surprised or frustrated as to why they couldn't persuade me that it was boring. They didn't need to. I accept their opinion.

Towards the end it improved, those who weren't interested had gone. Actually I enjoyed the thread, it encouraged me to think about the project, so I shouldn't be too hard on anyone and I'm sure I can sound elitist and defensive sometimes.

What I didn't think very strong was the sameness, the monotony in the compositions. I assume that was done for emphasis, but it becomes visually stale, even though I would grant that it does emphasize the monotony. I think there are other ways the monotony of the scenes could've been emphasized yet have kept the compositions more visually varied and engaging.

Thanks for getting to grips with the project and thinking about it. How would you approach it within the narrow concept?

If it wasn't boring before, it's sure getting that way...how many threads must this thing have?

If the project is about monotony, it conveys it...by simply being monotonous, instead of raising questions.

It reminds me of projects in which female students claiming to (variously) "appropriate the forms of pornography in order to subvert them" went right ahead and actually created [very bad] pornography, instead of actually commenting on the genre.

I think I got what you were going for, but don't find it particularly interesting in either an aesthetic or a philosophical sense. If there's a message you're trying to convey, I think you might try mixing things up a little rather than endlessly repeat a syllable. How to do that? I can't say...but maybe some experimentation is in order rather than following the formula.

Then again, staring at a wall has brought enlightenment to a very few...but bored the hell out of the vast majority who've tried it. It's possible that I'm just not sophisticated enough to engage on this, too. But when you ask the Internet for feedback, you tend to get it in *****s.

The irony here mabelsound is the 'boring' thread wasn't supposed to be about urbanpaths and I never once asked for any feedback or opinions on it! But people just couldn't resist bringing the subject up and giving opinions and feedback anyway.

So to satisfy that demand I started this thread. Don't worry I will get on with it - but I think it's reasonable to respond to people's questions or points.
