I'm travelling the US with a UK model RD-1s.
Is it easy to find a suitable power cable for the battery charger?

I wouldn't bother buying an extra cord for that, an adapter plug will set you back about three pounds for a simply model to 12 pounds for a luxury any-plug-to-any-plug model (prices at Heathrow three weeks ago, so in the real world out there they should be even lower), and it can come in handy for other stuff, as well. Provided that the R-D1s power adapter supports 120V, which it should.

I take one or two US-UK adapters and a UK 13 Amp 3 way adapter. That way you can run 3 UK appliances from one US outlet. Very useful for charging batteries while you transfer SD/CF card contents to backup storage. Most hotel rooms have a cupboard that houses the coffee maker etc which has an outlet at a convenient height. Other outlets are usually at floor level and generally involve unplugging a lamp or the TV.

The Epson charger is 100-240V 50/60Hz so no problem in the US :)

I'm already in the US, so I'm thinking a UK 3 pin to US plug is going to be harder to track down.
On top of that, I'm returning to my home in Australia and I don't really want to use travel plugs on future photographic trips Down Under.
Is there an alternative to hacking off the UK plug and installing an Aussie 3 pin?

If you don't want to buy a travel adaptor and if you have the standard Epson charger, in the US you need is this cord

Which is a non-polarized (and non grounded) AC power cord. It is a standard Panasonic Non-Polarized Female(IEC-320-C7) to 2-prong Plug Male(NEMA 1-15-P) which you may find with laptops, audio/video equipment, VCRs, etc, which use this two slot non-polarized plug.

When in the states you should be able to get it at RadioShack or any other electronics store. In Oz you should be able to find one too.

Should be no more than $6 or $7 at most.

As Saxshooter said, you can get the correct US lead at RadioShack. I bought one for my charger today so the RD1 charger wouldn't have to share its cord with my D70.
The item number is 61-2876, "Replacement AC Power Cord." The list price was $4.99us.
