I just received my first M3 and collapsible summicron today. I have a question about the lens. When extended, it is only locked in one direction. Therefore, when I turn the aperture ring in the unlocked direction, the extended lens also turns. Is this normal?
Thanks,
Gary

Mine doesn't turn when I turn the aperture ring. That would be a major pain in the ass.
Mine doesn't turn either. The apeture ring should turn smoothly and without tension through it's click stops.

I had the same experience when I first acquired my used M2 with the same lens model. While it doesn't affect the quality of the pics, it is quite annoying. I had the lens CLA'd and got it fixed. Cost - $65

Thanks. Who did your CLA and what was the turn around? Glad it isn't a major deal.

Gary,
Actually, I live in Hong Kong. The lens was CLA'd by a local, Mr. Lee of Panda Camera, who used to work for Leica Germany, but is now retired. At first, I thought about sending it to the Leica HK but they have to send it to Germany for 3 months. Then I found Mr. Lee through other Leica forum (Photonet I think). Turnaround time was 10 calendar days.
Mr. Lee is very much capable and very professional with his dealings.
