Used camera stores, or pawn shops/charity shops in Richmond, London?

Hey all, I hope I'm posting in the right area of the forum, but anyways..
I am studying at Richmond, the American Uni in London, UK. I walked into a few random charity shops just to see if there were any used cameras in there, but didn't come across any. Am in search of used film cameras, depending on what they are, mostly rangefinders, perhaps even some M42 lenses if I come across any.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might want to check in the Richmond area, or extending outwards to London in general? I do know there was this camera store I came across just south of the Camden Town tube station that was filled with used equipment, but it wasn't exactly the cheapest place I've come across, not to mention not at all in the area I am in.

Or for that matter what photo shops does anyone recommend checking out? I know there is a Calumet somewhere in London, and I've stopped in Jessops before, but wasn't too impressed by the place, it struck me a bit as a Ritz Camera or Wolf Camera equivalent back in the States.

Thanks!

Generally, most charity shops in the UK now have 'valuers' or price according to Ebay, but you can sometimes still get lucky if you're persistent in visiting them.

One bit of information that might be of some help to you is that many of the London classic camera dealers, flea market stall holders etc. buy their stock from Arundel Photographica. The prices are very reasonable, the staff knowledgeable and always willing to haggle - often giving very, very good discounts.

Good info to know! Thanks! Arundel is a bit out of the way of London it looks like, but if I get the chance I may have to make my way out there! I'll do some research about what else there is to see around that area!
Thanks again!

It's well worth a visit.

Last time I was down there they had Leica Ms for sale at around the £200 mark, stacks of SLRs, medium and large format cameras. It's a real cornucopia of antique and vintage gear - plus you can have a wry smile to yourself when two weeks after you've visited you see the same camera or whatever for sale by London dealers, and / or on the internet, at more than twice the price it was at Arundel Photographica!

There's not much in the Richmond area although there are some charity shops in Twickenham and Hampton Hill as well as some in East Sheen, you might be lucky!!

Andrews Cameras in Teddington used to have a great Classic Camera section, but this is largely gone now..... :-(

John, you make this sound far to tempting to not go sometime! Again, thanks again! I am literally lusting for an old classic camera right now, since I left all at home in favor of my DSLR set up and a film body that works with the same lenses! Practical shmactical, it just isn't quite as fun!

Phill, thanks for the tips, I do find the charity shops to be a bit of hit and miss since it is just whatever they come across, but may go and check a few more out!

I see you have the same problem over there as I do in Virginia. Worse part is, all my favorite haunts are closing down left and right. I walked into one of them on their last day, and didn't have enough money to clean them out of photo gear, even with everything being 65% off!:bang:

Sorry to hear that, I know back home near SF, one of the local shops that I try to support is definitely struggling, though they have a few loyal customers that seem to help keep them afloat, at least for the time being.

Just a follow up, but today made my way out to Arundel. The town is quite beautiful and today lucked out with really nice weather for the most part.
The store was just as described, and while I was hoping to pick up a Rolleiflex Automat, there were none, so instead went with a Rolleicord IIa for £45.
Highly recommend the place, and will definitely be going back.
Thanks for the heads on Arundel Photographica!

Glad you enjoyed it.

Have fun with the IIa.
