I've noticed that used Leica MPs are a pretty rare item - but what kind of pricing is usual for a user black paint MP?

I've really got a hankerin'

Just saw one go for 1175 GBP at the Leica User Forum. I bought mine for about the same amount (2300 USD). Both standard 0.72, silver.

Good choice, I got mine for just under 2000 USD, black paint. This is a good time as the tax man cometh the Leica's sometimes go cheap ;)

Last December I bought a 0.85x black MP in excellent condition on eBay for $2200. If you are looking at eBay do a search on "completed" auctions. Also keep track of the classifieds here and at photo.net.

I was just check on eBay last night to see what was available and price. Seem a couple dealers have them, in the $2400+ range but not that many individuals selling theirs these days. Popflash has mint/like-new without the USA warranty for $3,400! Other than that prices seem fairly steady in the mid $2,500 range unless you find a good deal.

The value of the US dollar appears to be working against me.
Looks like an MP might be a little out of reach this year - but we'll see.

Leica MP .85 Chrome

Just picked up a Chrome Leica .85 in very good condition with all packaging for a backup camera. cost me approx 1800CDN.

Suggest you venture out to your local camera shows, eventually a deal will present itself.

Last month I won a bid on *bay for a brand new black paint 0.72 MP with warranty for $2,495 USD. This might be the exception for a new MP. I had lost an earlier bid for a used (brassed) one for about $2,200. But I'm glad I did, since getting one with a warranty and in pristine shape was worth an extra $300 to me. Surprizingly, I was the only one who bid on the new one!

$2500 for a brand new Leica MP? 2800$ for an ala cart? UNDER 2000$ for a like new used MP? And this was just a couple years ago. Dang the American dollar! Our Fed pumps out fiat currency that's worth no more than the paper it's printed on! We're enslaved to China with a debt that will never be paid back and the value continues to plummit. At this rate, I'll never be able to afford an MP. In a few more years, I'll probably
return to this thread and moan about MPs being 8k for a moderately used model. Anyone have a flux capacitor I could borrow?

It's not just the weakening of the US dollar. Every time Leica ups the price of a new item, it drags used price up too. And MPs seem to be more of a limited production item, and demand, relative the M7, remains strong. Hard to imagine I purchased my first (and now only MP), brand new, just released, for about 50% of the current price ($2595). And back in 2003, I thought that was expensive.

Prices for used MPs have spiked up in the last 6 months. I don't know why. When the M9 was released, there was a short flood of MPs on the market. If I wanted an MP, I would wait to see if the market softens in the next 12 months.

But as someone already said, if you want the classical feel and look, why not consider an M4? Now you can get three M4s for the cost of an MP.

People do seem to be holding onto them, I'm certainly keeping mine. The $ weakens, Leica reduces production and raises prices, not much on the used market, all are factors. I wonder if the MP will eventually become more expensive than a digital M?

I just want the MP because I enjoy the light meter! I have an M6 classic, but I hate the bubbling zinc top on it. I also would enjoy the circle light inbetween the two arrows. But I'm not going to pay a king's ransom. The dollar is going nowhere fast, so I guess I'll have to wait for the MP market to settle down. Maybe when the m10 is released? :)

I owned an MP for several years but I have not enjoyed shooting more than with my M7 (.58 magnification). As far as approximated prices:

1) M6 $1000
2) M7 $1700
3) MP $2500

Last plug - The top and bottom of the M7 is fabricated of brass, similar to the MP.

i've been monitoring black mp prices for a couple years now (and I'm finally in a position to go for it!), and I have noticed an increase in "used" prices by about 200-500. I used to see them for 2200 regularly, as low as 1900 on rare occasion, and now 25-2700 seems to be standard. M6 and lens prices have gone up too it seems, if only a little.

Hey 35mmdelux, would you mind telling me where to look for an MP for 2500? I'm not aware of all the used gear spots. I tend to look on eBay, and there they are upwards of $3k used!
