Used Nikon F5 or a DSLR?

FM3A will do most of what the F5 will do (except AF) and have a much much smaller profile. The F5 is rather sizeable.

So will a cardboard box with a light hole in it - they all take photos right? Much lighter and cheaper.

Seriously though, this decision is a no-brainer. Film is dead - I would definately go with the DSLR. I personally shoot Nikon because I have a lot of lenses left over from my film cameras, but if I were building a system from scratch I would definately go with a Pentax K10D and get a bunch of pancake lenses. Check this out:

K10D body = 28 oz with battery and SD card
21mm f/3.2 = 5.5 oz with hood
40mm f/2.8 = 3.2 oz
70mm f/2.4 = 4.6 oz

That's a grand total of 41.3 oz, which equates to roughly 2.58 pounds.

(thanks to my friend James for that info)

And the cherry on top? All the lenses would have anti-shake since it's built into the camera.

Lonely Driver........I'm more or less settled on getting a film slr now. Thanks for your opinion though.

Thanks everyone for offering their suggestions. :)

Ahh then one more vote for the Nikon F100 - it handles like a D70 or F5. Personally I prefer the F4, but the F4 is way to piggy.

F100 is a very nice camera and can be had for a steal nowadays. I had one for a short time and enjoyed it. Stayed with shooting Canon and I have a EOS 1N with the PB-E2 booster that I paid $220 for and it is mint. Cheap enough that you can get the camera and a used Minolta scanner for less than your F5 budget.

I see from the Polls here there are alot of Nikon shooters, but the 1N is one worth considering.

Well.......it doesn't look like I'll be getting an F5. Having a hard time bidding for it. Oh well, maybe it's a sign. Anyway, I'm not sweating it. With everyones input I'm opening up my eyes to other cameras I've never even thought of.

Lonely Driver.........thanks again for your input.

Darrin.........thanks for your input too. I'll do some research on the Canon EOS 1n and PB-E2 booster.

Hey, I've never thought of it but now, on a whim, I am selling my beautiful like-new super mint++ Nikon F100. If ytou want it, it's yours for 375$. Shot 30 rolls through it.

I'm thinking of keeping my beater F5 because of the screen I changed lately.

WHoa! I see you're in TO! I'm in Montreal :)
The F100 comes with the original Box and booklet and cheatsheet.

That sounds like a fair deal especially since you have the boxes and everything. I'm one of those guys who likes to keep them. I don't know why though. haha

Is that $375 CDN? I'll need a couple of days to chew on that. I'll let you know by PM within a week. If anyone else wants to take it off your hands before I decide by all means let them have it. Thank you very much for the offer.
