My hesitation about buying a ZI from KEH is that I don't know if they're going to inspect the viewfinder before shipping the way folks like Stephen or Tony will do. Rangefinder cameras are mighty nifty for so many reasons, but that rangefinder that makes them so nifty can also be their downfall. I feel more comfortable spending a bit more and getting it from folks that know what their doing. Nothing against KEH, but I just don't know if they're going to give that level of care. Though, I must admit it'll be interesting to hear how it turns out....jbf said:Good point about tony at popflash. I'll definately keep that in mind as i get closer to buying a camera.

jbf said:Hi all,
I've been looking around at buying either a ZM or Leica M recently (probably in a few months time) and was wondering about used ZMs?
I've noticed that I hardly ever see used ZM's for sale but I was wondering if anyone knows about how much a used ZM goes for over a brand new one?
Just looking at the body itself rather than a 'kit'.
Thanks guys!
First off, a ZM is nothing. The camera is the Zeiss Ikon. The lens mount is Zeiss M mount = ZM.
If you call a camera store and ask for a ZM, they will probably try to sell you a lens. Ask for a Zeiss Ikon -- that's the camera.

Ok, well everywhere i've read had described it as a ZI ZM so thats why I kept referring it as that. Especially on this forum... so thats what I thought it was.
I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Interesting that users hesitate to get an LN- ZI body from KEH
but usually have no issues recommending EXC- or BGN condition
M3-M6 purchases ....
Check out 170142024626, for instance. A great price from a good
seller (I bought an M2 from her before) ...

jbf, I happily got mine from Tony at PopFlash, no regrets. The book has not yet been writted about how the Z-I withstands 50 years of use, but I admit not being all that concerned about passing it down to my descendants in working order. Leica has an impressive pedigree, and my M2 will turn 50 this year or next.
I find the Zeiss-Ikon M-mount camera easier to use, and generally more satisfying than some others. If anything I'm even more fond of the Minolta CLE, and I love 40mm & 28mm but when I wish to use 50 or 35mm the Z-I is the ticket. Or maybe the Konica Hexar RF... isn't it grand to have those choices?
I think the Z-I-M (what SHALL we call it?) is the first Zeiss Ikon camera to be called simply the Zeiss Ikon, and that raises a bit of confusion at some points. We need to be clear that it's the current M-mount model, not a Contessa or Contax, etc.
We solved that with the current Voigtlander Bessa by calling it Cosina-Voigtlander, or CV. "Voigtlander Bessa" also refers to an older folding 120 camera. Should we try CZ (oops another well-known brand) or CZI, as Cosina also makes this new Zeiss Ikon?
What if Ford introduced a new model (say, made for them by Mazda) called simply "Ford"... Your neighbor proudly tells you of his new Ford. "What kind of Ford" you ask. "Just says Ford on it, blue, 4 doors... has a Ford motor too!" Wow, you think, where are we? Confused! Call it the M-F...
