Yeah, a VF-2 is almost mandatory to get the best experience from it, IMHO.

I wish Henry's.com were selling a VF-2 at half price as other modules.:bang:Yeah, a VF-2 is almost mandatory to get the best experience from it, IMHO.

I set Fn1 to FOCUS ASSIST and Fn2 to ENLARGE ALL as in the OP.
Made a change here. As a half depress of the shutter displays live view, I set the FOCUS ASSIST to ON. That freed Fn1 for setting to AE LOCK.
Will give that a whirl!

Engaging brain slightly ... I set it back to "Fn1 to FOCUS ASSIST and Fn2 to ENLARGE ALL" and do my AE LOCK with the half depress.

Jeff, I simply set Focus Assist on. That gives me FA/peaking all the time without having to half-depress the shutter. Then, half-depressing turns off peaking, but by then you know what you want.
I'm currently shooting Ap Priority with a Canon 50 1.4, and do have AEL to toggle with Fn1 (in MY1, btw). Once I lock it, though, the operative word is LOCK. Let's say I want to shoot f1.4@800ISO at an object in a window, and get a /1520 reading--perfect--then turn to a darker object at the same distance; there AEL@1/1520 is no good. So it must be toggled off again UNLESS I want a consistent exposure regardless of light. Which, in my practice, is usually dumb. AEL, then, may cause more trouble than it's worth to assign it Fn real estate.
My muddling advice is to go slowly, get used to the basic stuff you can do from the menu, and gradually add functionality. Over-assigning functions to My Settings or Fn or Adj that you have to remember before focusing & pressing the shutter is like editing before you finish writing a sentence (let alone a paragraph).
Have fun! Get the VF2, it's worth the $, and gives you waist-level view when you want it.

Let me know if you spot a good deal. I'd like one as well.

Shipped from Hong Kong?
Do you like it? Worth getting? Hard to believe the EVF alone would be nearly the cost of the GXR+S10 set.

Yeah, shipped from Hong Kong. Seller had >31K positives...100% (impressive I'd say). The price was good ~$200Cdn and the EVF arrived in about a week.
In use, it's well worth it for me. I'm at the age that composing/focusing on the rear screen is more difficult due to presbyopia but the EVF makes it as snap.

I have fn 1 set for focus assist and fn 2 or enlarge part. That way you can have the part enlarged on the screen and use the +/- key to change the exposure comp. if its set to enlarge all every time you adjust the exp comp it go's back out of the enlarged view!

When I'm going shooting, I use the Settings menu to recall which three lenses I'm going to use and set them from shortest to longest on My1, My2, and My3.
G
So do I.
Let me please ask a question. Im really sure that these lens names are written in the exifs. But my Lightroom 4 dont shows me. I tried do active the settings in the develop module but I can only see the file name and exposure time date and so on. Where can I tell my Lightroom to show me the lens names?
Thanks,
Rainer

The MyConfig name is appended to the camera model name in the raw files. In the JPEGs, it is also incorporated as the lens model name.
That is, if you've defined a myconfig name as "Zeiss 38mm", the camera model from both raw and JPEG will list "GXR MOUNT A12_Zeiss 38mm". With the JPEG files, there will also be a lens name "Zeiss 38mm" listed.
It's not the greatest setup, but it works ok. I pre-process the raw files with EXIFtool before importing them to insert the lens name so that it appears in LR properly. With the above lens, I set the lens name to be "Zeiss Tessar 38mm f/2.8" that way.

Did you name the MyConfigs? It's not the lens name that's appended, it's the MyConfig name.
Also, what firmware version are you using? I seem to recall there was a regression in the EXIF data handling from one version to another at some point.

Yes, the firmware has to be the latest (v1.51). My GXR-M did not write the EXIF data correctly until I updated it. Just google "Ricoh GXR firmware" to get the GXR firmware page.

Also be sure you leave the mode selector at the programmed MySet setting, and use the menu option to change shooting modes on the fly.

The only way I can get the camera model to not say GXR MOUNT A12_MYSET NAME is if I've set up the MySet configs is to have set the mode selector to something other than one of the three MySet settings.
You will not get the EXIF data if the mode selector is set to PASM. If it is set to My1, My2 or My3, you will get your lens EXIF data.
