User Leica IIIG @ $820 USD, should I?

Hello guys,

Been window shopping today, saw a Leica IIIG in user condition. The finder is not as bright/clean as other the last IIIG (98% mint stuff, 2.5 times the price) I had tried before. Shutter is good, but louder than my CLA'd M2. Some broken Vulcanite, 3 or 4 Zeiss Bump (Leica Bump?) under the Vulcanite. The price is $820, after a 8% discount on the sticker price.

I can get the RF cleaning and CLA done in Hong Kong, but I can't get someone to resilver the RF or reskin/recover the IIIG.

Should I? I honestly can't afford that now, but damn, I want IIIG!!! :bang:

The shop used to have a M6 0.85 @ $1300 USD, gone within 2 weeks.

If you really want a IIIG, that is probably the best price you'll get for a user camera. Get the CLA done, get a new covering from Aki-Asahi.com & see if the finder really bothers you in daily use. If it does, then look at sending it to someone for that work.

Just out of curiosity.
Why would you get a IIIG if you got a m2? It sounds like you are a user not a collector, so I am just wondering.
I recommend to buy some other nice toy, a lens for example.
There is lot a of stuff, you can get for 800 bucks.

Whatever you get, I hope you will be happy with it.

There are a lot of M6's (Classic & TTL) going for $1000 on ebay these days. Just some food for thought. I'd choose one of those over a IIIG anyday unless you are a collector.

I don't know, a bit over $800 for a IIIg seems expensive, but sometimes GAS gets to you. For that kind of money I could get a couple of IIIfs in good condition, or a second M2/3/4. But try to reason with GAS... 🙄 If you want it, go get it. 😀
