using a 1.25X adapter on the M9

Raid, I don't use glasses with any of my cameras RF or SLR (both film)
So I can say I do use the Leica 1.25x WITHOUT diopter.

As mentioned on my original reply, my MP has a VF of 0.85 and the 1.25x gives me 1.06 which is great for both eyes open shooting so no diopters!

all the best,
John

John,
You may have better eye sight than I do.

This one from Japan Exposures (used to be Megaperls (sp?)) has diopter adjustment.

http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/accessories/ms-mag-x1.35-magnifier-for-leica-m.html

I have the x1.15 version which gives me approximately x1 with my 0.85 M6TTL. Without the diopter adjustment it would be useless to me, as I need something like -1.0 and at my age (almost zero accommodation) the fine adjustment gives me better viewing than the standard -1.0 Leica screw in diopter that I use when not using the magnifier.

I'm not entirely convinced that the claimed diopter adjustment range is as much as claimed, but I've no way to test it. For my eyes I'm well within the range though.

Raid, do you use a diopter normally?

I also have this Japan |Exposures item which is sold on their site as a magnifier although I bought it primarily because of its claimed "infinite" (ie stepless) diopter adjustment in the relevant range. This is what I really need. I find it works perfectly well its only slight problem is that the diopter can change in use by accidentally unscrewing the adjustment lens which is pretty loose. This is rectifies with a little nail polish or loctite.

I also have an aftermarket magnifier (1.25x) bought earlier on ebay. I found this helped but having no diopter adjustment I really needed the latter for my M8. I still sometimes use it stacked with the Japan Exposures magnifier when using long lenses but for wider lenses it becomes too hard to see the outer framelines when stacked in that situation. I can recommend the Japan Exposures item because it both magnifies and adjusts.

I have a couple of the 1.25x magnifiers. I normally use a +1 on the camera so I can look through the distance part of my progressive glasses and not have to carefully hunt for the right spot in the progression. I would try to see if the same diopter is sufficient with the 1.25x...if I could remember where I put them :bang: Honestly, I found that the loss of brightness and contrast cancelled out any advantage to the magnification. Not to mention that the protrusion keeps me from holding the camera as tightly to my face, therefore detracting from steadiness. YMMV of course.
