Using a large (8-10 roll) tank to develop one roll

Hey all, I developed my first roll ever last night from my "new" Nikon S2. It came out exposed perfectly, I was really happy with it. I found it a bit cumbersome to use the big developing tank I have, I think it's for like 8 rolls or something.

Now, I know obviously that I can just load the bottom one, and keep all the other spools empty, but it was still very annoying. My question is: When doing agitation, can I just shake it around a bit, and rotate the tank instead of actually turning the entire thing over a few times? The reason I ask is that a) I think there might be a small leak in the top of the developing tank that I have, and b) I think when I invert the thing, since it's so big and there are so many empty spools in there, the developer flow isn't exactly ideal.

I'll have a 2 roll tank on Monday, but I'm very impatient and want to get a few done this weekend. It's quite the ordeal rinsing and doing the stop bath with such a huge tank! It probably looked very funny. I don't have anything but household sinks in my house, and the tank won't fit in there..So I was using a shower to rinse and stop bath (I used water as stop bath, didnt have the right stuff yet).

Thanks in advance, I'll post my results when I get them scanned in,
Dylan

I used to develop one roll in a huuge Jobo built for I think 8 rolls, just to make sure I mostly did stand development (HP5 in Rodinal) and never had any issues. I agitated every 30 minutes with a swirl, if that qualifies as agitation. I also developed the common way in Rodinal 1+25 and 1+50, never had any issues with foam either, I just inverted the tank.
