This is related to my frameline question. What if I use a SM 9cm lens? Is there any way to set the correct framelines?

Yes....... by using the correct adapter. The adapters are machined to activate certain framelines so you need one that is marked for 9cm/90mm. I'm assuming you have a Leica M with the 90mm frame capability. 🙂
Stephen Gandy at Camera Quest sells a generic adapter that's very good in my opinion and much less than a Leitz adapter. Call him to see if he has the one you need.

Leica Screw Mount to M-Mount adapters come in three flavors; buy the adapter for 9cm and it keys the framelines for you. I have three adapters, ran ~35 each for used Leica pieces. 35-135 which keys the 35 lines on the M2 and the 135 lines on the M3, 50mm adapter, and 90mm adapter. I use the 90mm adapter on a 10.5cm F2.5 Nikkor with good results. The ~85% view for the 90mm is about a 100% view for the 10.5cm lens.

geos welcome to the forum! 🙂 You can get these adapters for around US$30 from Merkle Camera in Canada.
Maybe worth clarifying that there is no optical reason to use the "correct" adaptor for the lens in question. The only difference among the three adaptor "flavors" is in which viewfinder framelines they activate.
The framelines and three adaptors come in denominational pairs, 35+135, 28+90, and 50+75. Not all M cameras have all six framelines, but that's the normal pairing.
On a Voigtlander Bessa R2, R2a, and R3a, the framelines are switched manually by the user, so here it doesn't matter at all which adaptor you use with whatever lens. And of course it doesn't matter with the viewfinder-less Bessa-T either!
