Leica LTM Using double shoe mount on Leica III

Does anyone use a double shoe mount on their Leica? If so, what do you put on it?

I was wondering if I could put my VC 1 lightmeter and my SBOOI together on a double shoe on my Leica IIIa. Just wanted to check if there would be any unforeseen issues! The VC 1 would go on the left shoe and the SBOOI on the right. Hypothetically, if I was using a different lightmeter and wanted to put the SBOOI on the left shoe, would there be any parallax-related issues?

I spent a while looking for double shoe mounts and recently discovered that DOOMO makes some nice-looking ones for a good price.

I can't answer you question except I would like to ask you one. I've been looking for something to extend my shoe on my Leica Standard so I can mount a Leica 21mm viewfinder. The base won't fit in the area available. Did you find any single extenders in your search? I have not had any luck.

Here is mine with a Voigtlander 21mm but the finder base broke into pieces as the viewfinder was nice but the base seems to be a brittle plastic. The Leica finder is bigger and just won't fit.

I suspect the double shoe fitting would hang over the shutter speed dial making speed changes more difficult. To raise the height of a finder, there used to be extensions whose purpose was to convert a cold shoe to a hot shoe for flash. It would have a little PC terminal on it. E bay probably has some. Perhaps the Leica offset mount could work? It raises the height a bit and offsets it so you can adjust the speed dial.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread TheMapleLeafForever. Since no one has answered yet, I took my Leica IIIf and checked out photos of the DOOMO and SBOOI. It sure looks like it will work to me. Of course there would be a little parralax error if you offset the viewfinder but only a problem at close distances. And there is error with any viewfinder as you get really close and you are still not looking through the lens. I shoot almost all my 35mm with Barnacks but do have my Olympus OM-1 that I bought in 1978 that I use for occasional close ups with an Olympus macro lens.

I hope this helps and maybe someone who has actually used the DOOMO will reply soon.

I bought a double cold show from m_v foto thinking I would use it just as you suggest - with a VC Meter II and an SBOOI on an LTM Leica. I regularly use an SBOOI on my Barnacks and have learned to compensate for the parallax offset. I thought I could deal with the increased height of the VF on the double shoe adaptor but I didn't use it long enough to find out. I had previously found the VC II in the regular cold shoe to be too inconvenient. I could not look through the VF to aim the meter and press the button on the back of the meter. I don't know why I thought raising the meter would help. It didn't.

My solution for when I want the meter attached to the camera is to mount the VC II on a CTOOM flash bracket. I'll admit that it looks a little odd but I can aim the meter with the camera's VF and operate the button on the VC II with my left thumb. And as a bonus, the CTOOM functions as a very helpful grip adding at least a full stop to my ability of to hand hold the camera steady.

When in use normally (without double shoe) to compensate for parallax, don't you just use the dotted lines on the SBOOI?

And thanks for the feedback Neal. I ended up googling and did see a few people mounting it in the way I suggested.

Neal. I have seen 3D printed shoe height extenders. In fact I think it was made and offered by an RFFer. He (she?) also offered a 3D printed double shoe adapter. I got one. Don't really use it though...just because I haven't been motivated to shoot with the equipment combo that necessitates it.
Perhaps search the Shapeways site?
