Using filters on a M6 Classic

When using black & white filters (yellow, orange & red) on a M6 how do you get proper exposure? The manual it a bit unclear. It mentions extra exposure for orange & red filters. Are they referring to after you take a meter reading with the filter on? If you got experience metering with a M6 Classic, your input would be greatly appreciated.
 
Since the M6 uses through the lens metering exposure is already compensated when metering with the filter attached..
 
It's the same. Just point, line up the arrows (or the dot) and shoot.

There's some concern, of course, that the meter may not measure properly with the filter in place. When in doubt, give 1 more stop. It's just too much of a hassle to unscrew and rescrew the filter for every shot.

Of course, the best alternative is an incident light meter. But then, why use an M6 or any metered M?
