A buddy of mine is exeriencing some strange effects when developing prints using Ilford Harman Cooltone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

"I am developing b&w shots on RC paper using Ilford Harman Cooltone, and experiencing lots of inconsistencies. I’ll do one shot where it is well developed, and the very next shot will have all sorts of problems. I will get what I described as ripples of light in some shots (similar to ripples in a calm lake of water). In other shots, sometimes I will get spots of light, shaped like leopard spots. Also, sometimes I will get very dark development on one half of the shot. Then, the very next shot, I’ll get a shot that is perfectly developed (at an amateur level, of course).

I don’t develop a lot of shots anymore, but I am using the same equipment I’ve always used, and never had problems. I used to use just basis Agfa developer, and rarely had any problems I couldn’t figure out. I am slowly agitating the paper in the tray – however I will admit I usually use lots of light through my enlarger, and keep my development times in the tray to 20-30 secs, so I rush a little through the processing. Has anyone used Ilford Cooltone and had similar problems. Any other recommendations given the problems I’m having?"
